Returning to sales after being laid off

Good day, fellow savages.
It's been some time since I visited this community, it's nice to see it's still active.
Long story short, I got corpo screwed again and was laid off despite being awesome in my last role. My confidence took a bit of a hit from that, but luckily I got hired by my #1 client from that job, so things are looking up.

With this new job, the main focus for my sales kung fu is tracking activity, staying organized, and staying focused.
Unfortunately the company doesn't have a built in tool to track activity and the boss only cares about revenue, which is pretty nice for a change.

I'm basically in charge of my own success, so I'd like to hear about how the community is tracking their own activities outside of their CRM. If you have a nice excel template or something to share, that would also be killer.

Thanks everyone

Spreadsheets are probably the best way. Can you export to a csv file from your crm?

That’s a good question, and something I’ll look into right now, haha

Your boss doesn't care about activity metrics, but you do. That's a first. Anyway, glad to have you back in the war room savage! Get your boss in here as well; we already like him.

This question just broke my head. "All I care about is revenue" - a wonderful sentiment from someone who doesn't micro manage. I love that part. But don't all CRMs have a tally tool so you can know how many numbers your dialed?

Negative, there isn’t anything built in for activity metrics. I’ll just make my own spreadsheet until I have enough pipe to focus on the revenue side/ understand how much work brings in a deal.

The company is still very old school, the idea of a real sales process is still foreign to them.

Oh I love it, “go hit your number, I don’t care about the rest “ this is the way.

Curious, what activities outside of a CRM would you be looking to track?

The point of a CRM is to do exactly that, track your shit. At least a good one that is.

Can you elaborate?

Sure, the crm is a completely new system to me. There is no way of tracking any outbound activity, only revenue projections, meetings, notes, and reminders.

The boss said she doesn't care how many people I call as long as I hit my number.
This is to help me keep myself honest, and figure out how much work it does take for me to get those meetings where I drive rev growth.

Out of curiosity, what CRM does your company have?

Regarding how to track just use a spreadsheet: Date, account name, contact, activity type, next steps, notes.

I think email can be extremely powerful, set tasks, set reminders to follow up with everything. I find it works for me better than spreadsheets or CRM

What CRM are they using? I'm shocked there isn't any type of activity tracking, that is table stakes to even be called a CRM

It’s called rumple, seems to be focused very much on account management instead of new biz
