RSU’s as top performer

I’m one of the top reps in my company, it’s a publicly traded org so can offer stock that I can sell (so basically a bonus).

when I joined the firm, me and my colleagues were all given circa $90k stock each that vests over 3 years.

I expected this to be repeated in the future for good performance but I’ve since learned that others have been offered $25k vesting over 4 years as a bonus for good performance.

I find it surprising firms would incentivise new employees more than paying to lock in their top performers.

does anyone else have experience here?

any tops on how to handle getting more RSUs when you’re already in the job?

Consider the RSUs when you join part of your signing bonus.
You don't get signing bonuses later on, but you can get bonuses, which is what they're offering.
In truth, sales reps have the opportunity to bonus themselves when they overachieve, by hitting accelerators and increasing their comp, so you'll often find that companies will not be as generous with additional bonuses, such as RSUs, as they would be with another role, such as a developer.
To that point, though, have a conversation with your manager. Point out your value to your company, the revenue you've driven, and any tangible metrics that highlight your achievement, and see what the answer is when you ask about getting more RSUs.

Wise bunny strikes again.

This, plus what @Revenue_Rambo laid out, should help you understand the situation AND develop a strategy to get some additional equity bonuses.

Great points. I think you’re right on both. I’ll go in to the annual review prepared

The world had changed greatly in the last few years. Employers know that the job market is a mess right now, so are hedging bets that top employees would rather stick it out than venture into a job hunt. Conversely, there is a massive about of talent out of work right now. True top talent can command their weight in stock and get it.
My question to you, if you were to go to anther company would you be considered top talent or is your performance a result of circumstances?
As far as getting more RSUs, my advice is to build your case over time and in advance. From my experience, RSUs are awarded most heavily to top performers who are looked at as a flight risk.

Certainly I’m not arrogant an enough to assume I could step into another role and be a top performer off the bat as all roles have their nuances.
However I can also honestly say my performance is based off skill rather than circumstance.
And I’m not a flight risk though, so yes you’re right this probably works against me.

Glad to hear you have that self awareness. We’ve all been around reps that have dropped a $1M in sales but have absolutely no skills.

Sounds like it’s just time for you to have a conversation about goals, expectations, and in this case rewards.

Have you expressed your concern and asked for stock?

Not yet - it gets looked at once per year in the annual review

If you don't ask you don't get... how rigid is this policy?

Seems to not be a strict policy, however I know another top performer asked and didn’t get an increase in the offer. I’ve not done my annual review yet

Welcome to the real world. New employees are often treated a bit better and comp’d more.

welcome to the game man. RSU's and stock options dilute INCREDIBLY quickly. I was given 2000 options, 6 months later the next rep 600, by the time 1.5 years had gone by they were giving 25k RSU's.
