Sales is Tough

Not to state the obvious, but man, sales is tough.

One day you feel you are nailing calls, figuring stuff out internally and finally feeling that you are having a breakthrough.

And then the next day, you have customers telling you what is wrong with your product, threatening to leave for a competitor and being combative like no other.

Had to post this because I made the mistake today of telling a customer, after being chewed out about our product, that she should go to a competitor. I think my quote was "be my guest"

So to those ending their year right now or just beginning one, just know you are not alone!

(First time posting, maybe not the place, but have loved reading through the content)

dang sorry to hear that!

SOMETIMES telling them to go to the competitor is the total RIGHT call.

I hope for your sake this was one of them haha

I agree! haha I think in this case it was the right call
It just feels that at times customers get offended when we say that

Ah, the joy of telling a customer "no" when they are being unreasonable.

If it was easy everybody would be doing it!Some customers are harder than others. Some industries are more brutal. Just develop a good plan and work the plan. You always have people that are going to come down on you. Just shrug it off and move on.

I try my best not to get heated with difficult prospects/clients, but man. They make it hard sometimes.

I usually get the urge satisfied with secretaries because it's much lower risk lol

So it's definitely the place IMHO.
Instead of a be my guest when someone brings up a competitor my advice would be to ask what they liked better about their product to see if it's something that they maybe misunderstood or if it is a product gap you have.

Good for you on telling them "Bye, Felicia" and sometimes you need to do that for your own sanity and if they are that difficult in the process before signing anything at times they will be even more difficult after.
Not every company is the right fit for a customer and not every customer is the right fit for a company.

it s a true rollercoaster. However, getting a deal in is addictive. Especially with a decent commish behind it

whenever I read about folks being chewed out for their product I wonder if you are selling an established platform with well known brand or if you're just talking too little about business strategy with your lead
