Sports- Gambling?

Yes Yes Yes...another post from the Brit asking the American people how I should act and be myself. Forgive me.

I've seen posts about 'fantasy football' American football to me. We do have our version.

Anyway, Ronaldo has joined Manchester United, and normally I put on a fiver on an accy of teams in the premiership when I feel like it, not a normal thing, but since Ronaldo has joined I'm inclined to punt more money on united to win (btw, Skybet has Ronaldo to score 30+ goals in this season as 21/1 I think, I may be wrong, either way it's good odds.)

I've occasionally looked at betting on American Football and Hockey but never reeeeallly understand how it works?

Do any of you have any tips? But also...any big wins or sadly, losses?

I'd love to understand the rules of Hockey especially and if it's worth betting on.

I'm not a huge gambler, it's normally just a bet or two after pay day and that's it.

Sorry had to edit this - I'm not asking for betting tips, more so just on how it works and what people have done in the past!

I have, in scenarios where I control the outcome, where my skill is involved not someone else's. A good example is darts or chess.

That's another topic, you don't bet in sales, although you do play with probability a lot, skill is also involved, it does give me the rush, but if I lose a sale I don't have money taken outside of my account, it's just money that doesn’t come in. The risk is not the same.

But you do bet in sales. You bet on spending time on certain activities will lead to a win. You only can control your activity - that's it. You can do all the things right and still lose. Everyone on this site has had a 1,000,000% lock deal that all of sudden says "no." And if they haven't, they haven't been in sales long enough. And while you don't lose actual money, I would bet that most everyone on this site has spent money based on a deal they thought they were going to win but didn't. Maybe it is a simple as ordering a bit nicer bottle of wine at dinner because you know a deal is coming in. God knows I have.

Yes, but it's a diffrent kind of bet. It's one where if you loose the bet there is less money comming into your acount. You don't loose money you've already made.

Betting on football is fun. In college, if you get straight up, you’ll get much lower payouts and much lower odds, but you can safely assume that day Alabama is going to win every week. Adding in the spread they’ll probably cover most weeks (this is wildly generic advice).

I love hockey but would not bet hockey. Game are generally too low scoring and over a longer season prone to a bit of luck. If the over/under is .5 or 1.5 that’s not really a sport for me to bet.

NFL games are fun to bet as well.

Hockey is one of the best sports to watch in person. If you get a chance to sit in an elevated seat behind the goal it will change your perspective on the sport. Difficult to do if you are across the ocean.

As for betting on it, I'd probably hold off. Stick to pro and college football.
