Stupid Sales Techniques

Hey Fam,

A few days ago I posted about a sales guru, I reached out, they followed up and we scheduled a time to chat.

This "Sales Guru" talks about not being available at all times for your customers so you dont seem needy. To some extent I agree, not about faking unavailability but rather on positioning yourself as an authority and not be a yes man to everything the say/request.

However, after speaking with his team they overdo it to the point where it makes them look like fucking morons and if there was a remote chance of me doing business with them it is completely gone.

Things like "Hey, don't miss the call or the team might kick you to the curb hahaha" or when trying to reschedule "We are super booked these upcoming weeks but we got a spot tomorrow".

I mentioned tomorrow didnt work and to send me some availability for next week and ill pick a time, to which he replied "Text John and we will set up a time that works for us".

I mean, so fucking stupid that just shows me that this sales guru is just another charlatan if this is what he "teaches". Needless to say, im not texting them, they can go and try their stupid "strategies" on someone else.

Wondering what other terrible "sales techniques" have y'all experienced?

haha this is SOOOO stupid.

it does not make you seem needy. If you get back to you prospects or customers quickly, do you know what that does?

Build credibility. Builds trust. Makes them know they can rely on you.

if you are always busy, or pretend to be busy, ppl will think you dont care about them.

pretty simple.

If I had a dollar for every “sales guru” who couldn’t tie their own shoes…….it’s a shame really

We’ve just went over Challanger and Steiner combined again. It’s all about creating a process, and building a relationship with your customer. Just know what you need answered and build a process around it.

There is no silver bullet.  All of these "techniques" reveal their lack of truly understanding the sales process.  "Techniques" get you a sale, however, they do no build a career.

Reminds me of that old trope of not having a #opentowork banner up on LinkedIn as a means to not look desperate for a job

One technique I haven’t tried but think it may a bit on the cheesy side is when you cold called “Hey ____ I only have a minute …” as a means to “maintain control of the conversation and let the prospect know they’re on your time”

I've heard this one but find it hard to use cause it doesn't make much sense to me.

Like, if you are so busy right now why tf are you calling me?

I think one of the worst pieces of sales advice I've received was from my current Sales Development Manager, "Be mindful of their time and ask them if this is a good time to speak."

I was once told to ghost certain meetings because when they rebook they are more likely to close.

The theory seemed so sound, until I gained sales experience lmao

Wow, there are a ton of stupid strategies but I'd say this one takes the cake.

These sales gurus get so into themselves and their own heads… anything to try and look “edgy” and like you are playing the customer right into your hands. Can’t keep up the act through a whole sales cycle though and if it works in the beginning its bound to unravel at some point.

...why? People buy from people they like. So if you provide a great experience in buying from you, if they end up on the fence between you and a competitor you want them to jump to you...
