Taking interviews in the office?

Hey all - interviewing for a number of roles currently. I work in a solely in person setting on a sales floor and, as such, it's difficult to find an open moment to meet with recruiters/interviewers.

I do have a lunch break but I've found that most people don't offer interview slots at that time. Any thoughts on how I can privately  take my interviews?

As someone who's worked most of his career remote I never thought how difficult it'd be to sneak out of the office for an interview.
Maybe make up a doctors appointment, dentist, etc so you can go at better times?

This often works, but can get dicey for multiple rounds.
WFH makes things SO much easier.

Yeah maybe call out sick and ask to WFH at a certain point

I would first let them know your concern (maybe can get them to shorten the process to less rounds) then maybe take a sick day and set up all of your conversations for that day

Interesting thought. I never thought of just having all the interviews on a specific day.

Just like a big ole fashioned grind day. Could work out for scheduling, could not. But imagine if you could get a bunch either moved to next step or disqualified, would be a great use of your time

Sounds like you guys don't have shared offices you can duck into. Every office I've worked in has had enclosed mini-offices so that people can run calls or demos in quieter settings when needed, or have some personal quiet space (nothing like trying to quickly talk to your doctor on an open floor).

We do have these but there’s a fun catch: each mini office is a private office for a decision maker at our company. For example: 4 offices, 2 are the co-founders, 1 is the CROs, 1 is the VP of HRs. We are allowed to go into them to pitch, but feels kinda weird doing interviews in them…lmao

Yeah, that's not going to be fun. We had the exec offices, plus the open ones you could step into if needed, or reserve for key calls. Sorry, dude, all I got, unless you can stack your interviews into a day and call out sick/ask for WFH so you don't spread your sudden cold.

Is it a phone round or zoom? If you are at an advanced stage m, why not WFH one day

Zoom interview, but it’s first round. I can take phone interviews easily (Starbucks run) but the zoom ones are difficult.

Start doing mid-day walks outside the office to “help your circulation” or “ as a stress & screen break”, Or whatever reason. That way you have a built in break a couple times per day for those personal calls.

Go to the car if you can, or find a hole somewhere if possible. Brutal scenario, pulling for ya!

Hate to say, but tell the recruiters your situation and be willing to schedule/take interviews after hours.

No phone booths?!
I used to not only take interviews at work in an office or phone booth but I would also take them on my company laptop 👌🏼

Ha. yeah the old company I worked with had phone booths and I did the exact same thing....this one, it's much more difficult.
