Terrible management with Email

Not sure why managers believe sending emails to the entire sales team that are 5 - 10 paragraphs long, coupled with veiled threats motivates anyone.

I will be calling everyone to discuss your sales plans for the month…… never mind I never do that…..ever. And we don’t do check ins, or run this place like a real organization that actually gives a shit.

like GTFOH.

All these people need to go in to marketing or do some other BS.

Brutal. Sounds like they are panicked and lashing out...

Or they don’t like confrontation so they do it through email.

Have you talked to them about this? Was it just a rant or a specific subject in the email?

Whenever we get into down markets, or any real pressure, you see the true colors of people. I would say your manager sucks but you may have already realized that. Sending a note to the entire team is fine but using it as a chance to put people on edge is immature.

Poor leadership! It also sounds like they dropped the ball on why they were hired and need to report to their own leadership regarding forecasting. These conversations should be happening on a regular basis with the team along with their offer to help in any way they can. What value have they brought the team in their role/s? Are they just gathering numbers? Justifying their existence to collect a paycheck? This sounds like the epitome of laziness to me. I'm sorry to hear.

To answer everyone's questions, we have the type of Sales Manager that sends those nasty emails to everyone via group message on the team weekly, and gets in to the whole let me call some people mode because his numbers aren't what he needs them to be. If sales are positive, glowing remarks and it is the complete opposite. If not, all of a sudden it's the bad cop game. Quite frankly, it's just insulting, annoying, and a terrible waste of my time having to ignore and move on with my day. Another admin activity that wastes my time!

We have a brutally tough market, which isn't aided at all by the company increasing prices upwards of 65% compared to barely 18 months ago. And they keep doing it across each month or quarter. Pure greed drives these initiatives. But nobody beats economics and the decreasing customer base that occurs with increased pricing.

2 or 3 people were thanked publicly for "doing their job" while everyone else is mentioned as "not doing their job". Meanwhile, the idea of "I will be calling everyone to deep dive in to what you can do to change things" was made as though a phone call is a threat. Lol. Please call me and offer to help at any time; the very thing Sales Managers seem to never do. I will take your call. I don't give a shit how much I am making or how many P-clubs I went to. I will at least hear you out. I have been on the receiving end of the glowing remarks many months, and even then I found the emails grossly insulting.

I don't know how or why some people stay at companies with this type of bs, especially for many years on end. We all know sales is a revolving door for many, but I'm lucky to drive my own results, work job opps, and find a role that pays really, really well and move along from the nonsense.

Most people in sales leadership roles are scum, and that's ok, because I don't have to talk to you or give a shit about you. I can even silence your calls so it never even alerts my phone. But too often people make sales people the excuse, when it's always the company, the PMF, the executive decisions that were made without you, the pay structure, and the support for the sales team... to name a few things. It's not always about personal effort and etc. But it's always too easy for people to blame someone else instead of driving to solve the problem and be proactive instead of reactive.

It gets annoying. Not frustrating, not stressing me out, just annoying, and ultimately, time wasting. But I guess that's why I'm throwing the deuces to more than double my base salary.
