Not commercial insurance, but I went from selling high interest loans for the less fortunate to tech sales. Tech is a pretty big umbrella, but in my opinion its all about absorbing/making your self familiar with as much product information as you can, and why that's valuable to the prospects organization. Much like anything else you have to know what your selling and how it applies to your prospects problems in order to successfully sell it.

IT prospects like to nerd out on new technologies. The more you can relate/bring value the better the rapport. Obviously you save the real technical shit for your SE, but its good to get yourself in the position of the trusted advisor.

Sellers gonna sell no matter the product.

I've seen it done before quite successfully. From insurance into enterprise SaaS.
