Translating Banking to Sales

I'm new to the WR (Hi) and fairly new to the job hunt. My previous employers have been banks, where I've been a commercial loan officer for CRE and C&I loans. I had a loan growth quota that was usually between $2.5 million to $8 million per year, and achieved quota every year. I prospected, cold-called, put together presentations, and closed new deals, all while managing an existing client base. I also managed to quadruple my portfolio in the 4 1/2 years I was with my last bank.

I'm looking to get into fintech, as banking isn't a very innovative or exciting industry. However, I've not had much luck in my job hunt and I suspect it's that bankers don't have the reputation of being "hunters" or really in sales.

I had someone professionally put together my resume with an emphasis on sales, but I'd appreciate any other recommendations or advice!

The main places I've applied are on LinkedIn and The Ladders for everything from sdr, bdr, AE, Sales Manager (I also managed a team of lenders).

I'd love to get some recommendations on how to translate my lending experience to decision makers in other industries. What are sales managers looking for when they're reviewing resumes? How can I make mine stand out, even though I may be in a different industry?

Applying blind on LinkedIn may be your problem. Lots of SaaS companies including fin tech rely heavily on their referral program for hiring. I’d hit up some current reps on LinkedIn to see if they’ll submit a referral. You can either set up a call with them to learn more about the company or directly ask for the referral on LinkedIn DMs. Many companies will also offer a referral bonus so current reps are often eager to help.

Not in fintech, but solid foundation of just asking for the close helped a lot.
