Update and Advice

Wrote a post yesterday about quitting without 2 weeks notice. Update is they threatened legal action if I didn't complete the full 2 weeks and if I took new employment elsewhere during the 2 weeks. Now having to get a lawyer involved.

Advice is (and just my opinion) never be faithful to companies. My contract states I will give a reasonable effort to give 14 days notice but they can terminate me with 0 notice. Companies aren't here for you, they're here for them. End of rant

I'm having a lawyer review just to be safe and then I'm quitting immediately.

They must really like you. I’d be really surprised if they did anything. Only exception might be if you’re going to a direct competitor.

Edit: shoe on other foot- You’re fired! Pack your shit and get out. You’ve got two weeks to leave the building.

Agreed with @oldcloser

Seems like such a toothless threat. What are they going to do if you make yourself available but choose to take 8 hour coffee breaks all day? Fire you?

So stooopit. And if they did fire him would he get 2 weeks notice? The brainless fuckery never ceases

It really is insane. Not a competitor, not even the same industry. After being threatened, it's more likely an employee does something detrimental than something positive in their final 2 weeks. Idiots with egos

Your a salesperson. Your motivation to succeed at the co expires somewhere just prior to accepting the new role. That they don’t understand that much likely has something to do with your departure.

I don’t know the details of your situation but I’d have so much fun with this…

Just put your feet up on your desk, bring a yo-yo or some shit just to be really blatant about not giving a fuck, wait for someone to come ask you for something and just say “Yeah, nah…” back to yo-yoing.

I start my new gig Monday otherwise I would just not worry about it and relax for 2 weeks

Recruit an internal yo-yo competitive team. You could get that done, including jerseys, by Friday.

Call their bluff - see what they do. Sounds like they win via fear, not legality.

Dude, you overlap and tell anyone! Put in 2 weeks and start the other job. Then when you are done, then change your LinkedIn.

Did you sign an employment contract saying you must give them the 2 weeks? If so, you need to honor it. They can't prevent you from quitting, but there may be some clauses in the contract you must honor. And you may have signed something stating you wouldn't work full time for another company while working for them.

And yes, most states are "at will" employment states, so they can fire you with 0 notice. But unless you signed something stating otherwise, you too can leave with 0 notice.

If you are leaving to a competitor, most of the time they will usher you out the door immediately but still pay you for the 2 weeks. The 2 weeks is mostly a curtesy to help them transition your work to someone else.

End of the day, if you signed something, you need to honor it.

Only thing I signed is that I will make a reasonable effort to give 2 weeks notice. Nothing stating I must do it or get sued

Put in your 2 weeks. They will fire you immediately.. they by law need to pay you for the 2 weeks bc they asked for it. Then just bounce and enjoy days off between gigs.

Hiring a lawyer for suing you is gonna cost em more than just simply letting you go I believe,so it's almost a fake one to me,but wth they brought to themselves,as if I were you I would definitely get em a terrible review on GD and each other portal I know!

It has always been my understanding that by not giving 2 weeks, they do not owe you any earned time off/vacation pay. If you can live with that, move on. HOWEVER... I rarely recommend burning a bridge... you simply never know... AND if they have threatened to take legal actions, the golden rule begins to apply: they don't have to win to win. Put a dollar number to the two weeks and make your decision.
