What is your opinion that would get you side eyed IRL but (you think) we all are going to agree with here?

For me it is that hustle culture is inherently selfish and as such MORE OFTEN THAN NOT leads someone to have an inflated ego and no refined skills outside of military-grade arrogance.

Leadership generally view sales teams as cannon fodder if they don’t have any direct sales experience themselves.

yeah working for people who have been there is a huge difference. By boss did my job for 2 weeks to feel how difficult it is. I still love that he did that. Also our CEO started out 25 years ago as an SDR-ish role.

This is so true, they should have at least spent some time in sales to be able to understand the struggle :)

Expense reporting is purposely made as difficult as possible to discourage people from submitting expenses to save the company money. It’s my big conspiracy and I know every sales person agrees.

Super thankful that my current employer gave me a company card. We use Trip Actions and I can't recommend it enough.

Tripactions is a solid product. makes expenses easy and booking business travel easy. I interviewed there though and it was a new manager but didn't seem to have much of a clue and turned me off.

I straight refuse to do reimbursement and instead force the company AMEX. I feel you.

Most salespeople are lazy, irresponsible, and lack integrity. When I say most, I mean more than 50% for sure :) That`s just my experience so far (13 yrs in sales). I think the reason behind this is most people working in sales don`t really see it as a career, so they don`t put in the effort, and that sucks since they just ruin the reputation of the field for all of us.

This doesn't apply for Bravado members of course :D

I'm just lazy enough to really despise redundant work. Being lazy also tends to make you very efficient so you can get back to slacking.

1. i agree with your take haha.

2. that you can ALWAYS overcome objections / your should always TRY to overcome objections.
i just dont believe that is true and if you force that too much its a great way to burn out reps because they think everything is their fault. hard line to walk as a leader im sure.

I feel this one. So many "leaders" blame poor sales figures on the reps, rather than that bad go to market plans they're pushing.

I think hustle culture is even more than inherently selfish. It's inherently stupid and will only pay off for <1% of people. The rest it's just going to leave without any lasting personal relationships and likely damage their family life if they have one.

Here's something I'd be vilified for at my employer, but will express here: Company culture and the "Company Culture" are two different things, and the one in quotes is usually a lie. I cannot stand the Rah Rah BS that most "Company Culture" entails. I'm here to work and make both me and the company money. That's it.

Hustle culture is burnout culture, you're burning the candle at both ends. Working hard towards your goals is great, but there has to be something else besides all work. Very few say, "I wish I put in more time working" on their deathbed.

Leadership has no idea what they're doing in a lot of scenarios. Just because they have plenty of experience doesn't mean it's relevant to an industry.

VC knows that many investments will not pan out, they factor that in. They just need a handful to do so for their whole portfolio to be worth it. When push comes to shove, the rank and file are more at risk.

It absolutely is who you know, not just what you know. Professional experience helps but if you have the right connections, you will go farther and higher at a quicker pace.

Dreams in some cases are just that: dreams. Not every dream is meant to be. Nice to think about, yes, but if nothing is done to achieve it then it will not occur. A sad reality but true all the same. Not everything is for everyone.

To all this negativity above, here's what I say: know what you're good, bad, and ugly at doing. Focus on making money in what you're good at and improving the bad and ugly where possible. Make sure that there are others along the way to help you and return the favor.

The majority of companies that invest in diversity and inclusion only do it to avoid blowback and don’t actually care to change.

"Extreme Ownership" is one of the worst books to happen to sales.

I have been forced to read it 3 times now, and it is never applied correctly and is just used as a way to put the blame on reps for everything.
