Road trip to Lassen National Park/Crater Lake NP
Those are both awesome! Have time to throw in Burney Falls and Lava Beds National Monument?
Might do Burney Falls but there's a couple of other waterfalls we might check out around the Mount Shasta area. Haven't heard of the Lava Beds National Monument but will now need to add this to the list of places to see!
I havenโt been to Lassen since the fires in 21 (we went in 2020), so Iโm not sure how much was affected. But if youโve not been before, the Bumpass Hell trail is a smelly, sulpherous must. Particularly if youโve not been to Yellowstone and you like volcanic stink pots. Watch for pika on the trail in, sunblock, as there are some exposed parts of the trail, lots of water, and donโt panic if thereโs no parking in the trailhead lot. Itโs better to park on the roadside across from Lake Helen - thereโs a shortcut up to the trail from there. Get there as early as you can, though, it does get busy.

That's a great tip! Hopefully Bumpass opens in the next 48 hours (has been closed due to snow), will have to give you the scoop once I'm back from there.
Yeah, we planned our trip around Bumpass opening. That said, heat wave coming, hopefully it melts that snow back. Have a great trip!
