When deciding on which start-up to choose as an AE ...

I am looking for some insight, feedback is appreciated.

If you have two offers on the table, both SaaS organizations, start-ups essentially. One is a GPS asset tracking platform that is rebranding from a B to C GPS pl organization to an intuitive, full SaaS platform.

The other is a UCaaS, conversational intelligence, CX platform that's just getting going.

When choosing, what are some things you'd look for? Both are offering same salary, with the GPS org offering shares too.

Why not work for a well established company?

That’s my question. I’m seeing a lot of risk with these two offers.

The GPS is established, starting a new B to B model from B to C.

GPS has 80,000 using the solution and 300,000 assets being tracked over 16 years as BtoC.

Does the well established company have BEAN BAG CHAIRS? What about a beer fridge?
If there is no foosball, I'm out!

The GPS is established. They have been in business for 16 years as a B To C, PL growth and have done really well.
They're now building a platform that will change the space. Think Zapier for the GPS world.

Business metrics, PMF, runway, industry trends, current rep attainment…these are the major factors I’d take into consideration, especially since money is even and equity means nothing until an event that may never happen.

For startups need to understand the health of the business. I've posted about evaluating startups extensively. Check my profile or search for "Series A" in the search bar.

The two you describe sound challenging. Pivoting to B2B can be tough. And entering an already crowded market UCaaS is even tougher.

I would like to emphasize your point. You need to see where the funding and runway is. The other considerations are existing pipeline, your territory, length of sales cycle, and win rate. You can calc everything out and take the better cash value.

Thanks. The are both bootstraped. No VC $ or private equity.

Tough decision. I like both platforms. I like the strategy with the GPS organization, the rebrand and their website looks much better, IMO.

I would look at salary, company and employee growth, layoffs, quota and realistic achievement, Glassdoor, repvue for reviews, news etc.

have you worked at a start up before?

the GPS company sounds like they have been around a while if they are rebranding, are they a start up?

when evaluating start ups here are a few factors I look at:

1. who is the leader YOU will be reporting too? What success have they had working at a company that sells a product in your price range? Have they lead a team of AEs before?

Also look at the CEO/Founder. What is their track record? How do they view sales? How do they view marketing?

2. does the product have Product Market Fit?
3. Does the company have a unique approach/offering to the market that ppl actually CARE about?

Thanks for your insight.
The GPS company has 300,000 trackers sold with their B2C model, over a 16 year stretch. Now they're pivoting to a B2B & rebranding.

I am not a SaaS sales person but generally I would definitely pick up the one that would better enhance my experience and strengthen my sales skills and the one I have more passion to try and finally try to get any feedback from any of the previous or current employees you may know or reach about the working environment, promotion chances and even the managers attitude towards the employees to grow and learn, the more of those factors available at one of them the more my choice would go 4!
Best of luck,

As someone that has worked at a startup in the CX space, I would stay away from a startup that is just getting started in that space, especially in the CCaaS space that is dominated by legacy companies and super hard for a startup to get business. Don't know much about the UCaaS world, but I guess that it's the same. The CXtech market is insanely crowded.
