1) The word is politicized
2) The Olympics are not stupid but do have a lot of problems.
3) The IOC is laughably corrupt
4) I'd be fucking pissed if I lived in Tokyo and the Olympics were just going on while we were in lockdown.

In short, your grievances are legit but your expression of said grievances need some work.

Hear me out - while I’m all for being responsible about the world burning, there are a lot of athletes whose whole life has been devoted to this. And they only peak for a very limited time. How old do you think the average gymnast is when they retire? Track star? There are no other championships which matter, and the chance to compete will literally shape the rest of their career (coaching jobs etc). I do think it was dumb as fuck to make the athletes fly there on commercial flights.

I'll agree with you, the Olympics are dumb as fuck!! Why the hell would you devote your life to a sport where you get to compete once every four years?? Just imagine what your pipeline would look like if you dialed the phone once every four years! Well, that's how 80% of salespeople work anyway.....
