Always button-up instead. Can be a casual or coloured one - like a nice tan/cream/khaki/blue can make it less formal, but still work-appropriate.

Conferences I'd go sport coat, button up, dark jeans and personally I go with like Vans or other super comfy shoe, but also will rock some Allen Edmunds or some such too.ย  On your feet all day though, I go comfort.ย ย
