Women of Bravado-What do you think of this platform?

I love Bravado. It's given me a community where I didn't know I was missing one. That said-It can feel a bit bro-ish at times, which is probably an accurate representation of sales.

Is there anything we can do to make this platform better, or am I reading into things too much?

PS-I'm not from the Bravado team. I'm honestly just curious.

I am a man and therefore am usually wrong (my wife is training me) but, isn't sales culture very "bro" culture? It's inherently competitive and rewards people who have confidence in themselves and their process. Regardless of gender or introvert or extravert, I believe that there are some overlying parameters that successful people sales people fall into.

For me "bro" culture has very strong party centric vibes and I think that helps for sales because even when you're down from a professional sense or lose a deal - you cannot wallow in it, you HAVE to move on. You look at mistakes made, sub par approaches or follow ups and then use them to plan towards the future. You eventually realize that it's an impersonal world in sales from a macro perspective. People here aren't shaming people's mistake from a personal side, we argue that your logic may be flawed and to look at alternatives that may work better.

I don't see anyone talking about bedroom notches, I mostly see a strong focus to winning and supporting others in that goal. If that is "bro" culture then yeah so is sales.

Eh, competitive natures are found in both genders. Just look at female athletes and you'll get a small taste. :)

Re the party vibe, maybe? But I don't think that's as much a sales thing as a overall "here's how I unwind" thing. Girls' night out, boys' night out...has more to do with your friend group IMO. TBH, when I see the party vibe during sales kickoffs, some of it is kind of a desperate one-upmanship, but maybe that's just me and it's not my scene.

Right bunny, I believe the competitiveness to be beyond gender its a human thing - I would get torn apart by a high school girls soccer team - literally and psychologically. I do agree with hating the forced party vibe as well. With regards to this medium, it gives me a party vibe b/c it def has a feel of unwinding and therefore might give off the "bro"ness, again, not constraint to gender, but is a key component in my mind of what I think of when it comes to "Bros".

Honestly? I think it may be more of a youth thing than a gender thing.

I don't see too much "bro" on Bravado, or maybe I'm just so used to it I'm blind to it, which is possible.

I think that was my point (when I start thinking and typing who knows what I was driving at initially lol)- I don't see anything outwardly "bro" just sales and maybe we are too underwater to see the sky but I haven't seen anything outright toxic or exclusive here.

This is a great conversation. Thanks for letting me be a fly on the wall.

Itโ€™s interesting to me that I perceived some of the unwinding and party vibes as bro vibes.

Thatโ€™s something Iโ€™ll have to think about, as neither partying or unwinding are really gender specific.

Nothing wrong with your perceptions - we all have different POVs. Keep interacting. Your voice is important as well.

I think I was agreeing with you.

I actually don't think MOST bro culture is necessarily toxic. Mostly just not even really a culture, come to think of it. I find a lot of it just a function of a certain age group in a certain point in time. It does get mocked a lot, though.

I don't mind the culture - if it's not something I'm interested in, I move on. There are gaps all over in here, from role, to age and career stage, to gender, to type of sales. I find most of it fascinating.

In all the years I've been in sales, I've seen a culture shift, at least in the tech sales world in which I operate. There are FAR more women here than there used to be.

That said, your voice is welcome. If there's some content or discussion you'd like to have, feel free to start a post and see where it leads. I know there are more than a few of us here who will participate.

I'm trying to be really unbiased and trying to see if this holds water - I didn't feel it's 'Bro-culture' so far. But I hear ya. There are many female fellow WR users who are actually leading the leaderboard as well. So i am kind of confused, a little.

Let me ask you this - How do you think we can make it more equitable for women?

I think you're reading into it too much. The reality is there are industries or career fields that skew more toward one gender or the other. Nursing is overwhelmingly female, and according to my sister, a nurse, the culture is naturally more feminine.

Sales as a career field is predominantly male. Therefore the environment will be more masculine in nature.

The reality is women on this platform will likely have valuable insights that we men can benefit from since men and women typically look at things through different lenses. Don't let the fact that your testosterone levels don't measure up to most folks here deter you from contributing. On the contrary, you should be motivated to contribute more because of that fact. There are things you see that we don't in the world of sales at times.

Additionally, women in sales would likely benefit from activity in Bravado if only for the additional exposure to the inner workings and psychology of a demographic that makes up the majority of your peers.

PS Often times, the name of the game in sales is simply to stand out. So it's not just okay to be different from the majority but advantageous at times.
