Advice: I need a side hustle!

I am 7m into a new role that I am both KILLING and absolutely loving. I've truly never had so much satisfaction in the daily grind. The only problem is that the base is too low to live on and it's a 2x/yr commission payout structure. In the 5 months of the fiscal year I've already hit bonus, it just won't pay out until June 2023. Your girl is going broke in favor of actually liking her job.

Need some ideas for a side-hustle or second job that won't put me out in the public much. I'm not above waitressing for a few months, but I don't want to have interactions with my local customers outside of my current role for obvious reasons.

I'm a busy mom of 3, so I'd love to find something that I can kinda phone in during those "off hours". Have any of you found a good second stream of income that doesn't interfere with your main role?

FWIW: this has all come about because insurance has fucked me on payment for- toddler surgery, teen braces x2, and teen ultrasound for potential cancer (was clear!). Once I get these bills paid off I'll be back in good shape financially, but I'm about $17k in the hole from these things! God I love US healthcare 🫠

Copywriting? So many people do it, and yet almost 95% suck at it. You can get paid these days to write email sequences for other companies, who don't know sh*t about email writing.

I’m a terrible writer, although I do craft a pretty good email… I wouldn’t even know where to start with this though. What platform should I be looking at?

Fiverr is a portal which lets you register as a freelancer for 1 or more particular skillset. However, it's a slow and painful process. I'd suggest you find someone in your network who's looking for a copywriter maybe?

I'm so sorry. That comp plan sounds atrocious. I guess once you get into the swing of things, it will be ok, but that gap between getting started and getting that first commission check must be awful.

Check out Bravado Flex first, see if that's doable (I think you have to have a Jobs profile, but I could be wrong).

How much time would you have per day and what (besides sales) are you interested in/good at?

One other thing I might recommend is tapping your parent network. With the teens and toddlers, you have a network of people who may have part time openings at their businesses where you could fill in.

Finally, thank goodness all the kiddos are doing well! I can only imagine how stressful that was on top of everything else.

BTW... that commission schedule is pathetic. They are hoping you quit prior to them having to pay you. You have to wait a year for money you already earned? That is plain wrong.

It’s actually the standard for the industry I’m in now. It’s just so different than what I’ve had before that my life wasn’t set to to absorb that blow plus the onslaught of medical bills that I’ve been hit with.

I don’t disagree that it’s abysmal and I’ll be a champion for change. lol. Just a damn shame that I love the job.

There was an email that went out for Bravado Flex where it can be part time sales

Fill out a profile on the jobs tab. I think you need that to be notified about the flex gigs.

I think you only would see it if you'd signed up for Bravado Jobs - so you might want to do that.

Dang, that sucks. I am glad your kids are good and taken care of though. I guess it depends on what you are truly interested in doing.

The age old question. I (sadly) don’t have any talents per-se outside of sales. I’m about to just go apply for counter jobs at pet stores or something. I have plenty of offers to 1099 for local companies but they want me to use my network but I need something that can be done after hours so B2B sales is kinda out of the question.

Makes sense. A small gig might be the best way to go depending on where you are at. It really is a shame that you have to fall back to additional things and miss out on the time with your kids.

I have my own side business(network marketing business) that has allowed my wife to stay home with the kids. Not here to brag on that by any means, but just to say that I wish the same for you eventually.

Maybe get a loan from your employer/advance on your bonus. They are happy with you they might say yes

I could never... maybe it's pride but I'm so against 'owing' anyone anything (which is why these debts are making me sick)

I choked on air when I read " June 2023". Shit it's really bad that they have this comp plan.

You can maybe try Content editing / social media writing / a side business that you like doing in free time / managing someones' website. Something of that sort.

Right... I thought I had an understanding of the comp plan when I got hired but then I found out that what I thought I had understood was incorrect and now I'm shitting myself. Would be a lot easier if I didn't like the jobl.

also that comp plan sucks! i wish you didnt like your job so you could go find a new one hahah.

I would look into that Bravado Flex email that was sent out the other day.

Or SellerX more like on demand sales roles.

Right?! I’m pretty pissed because we live frugally & are damn close to debt free. But two years of bad medical luck + recent inflation have absolutely fucked my budget. Oh well, we parents make it work no matter what- right?

I’ll look into both of those! Thank you!

medical shit is the WORST! We have used Care Credit in the past and they let you pay off a medical bill over 6 months - year with no interest. that has helped a bit.

in which industry are you in where you have developed most relationships? I would probably suggest becoming a reseller on some or couple of products that would fit your knowledge together with your network..

Doesn’t pay enough for me to consider it. Where I am it’s $200/mo not worth the time, effort, or bruised arms.
