Hire a hit man. If you can’t afford one, cyanide is relatively cheap.

If a detractor is the decision maker you have a few routes to success .
1. build consensus with all users and other stakeholders. 2. directly challenge them on where you fall short and address that with them 1-1, or with an exec that sponsors the deal internally. Bringing in one of your higher ups can make them feel more powerful and better about your group.

Agreed, I think either this approach (or failing that, @paddy 's) is your best bet.

Have yet to see it happen. Maybe someday, but I doubt it

This is the worst, especially when you have champions underneath said blocker. Candidly, when this happens this is a deal that I don't prioritize and make sure I have support coverage in my pipeline. I mentally project it as a "no" knowing that there is a minimal chance I can pull off a little magic, but that its not likely. Tactically, you have to "tame the shrew" --- which isn't exactly standard practice and will be different for every type of blocker. Good luck!

You are going to have to flip the table on him. May I ask how he/she became an anti sponsor? Get into their shoes/glasses if possible and work backwards
