AE Comissions

Hi warriors!!

I would love to have a broad picture of what is out there in the market, that is why I would like to know :

1. What percentage of commission do you earn for the ACV?

and also if you feel it is fair according to your popular knowledge? and what do you think the AE should earn for ACV?

What percentage of commission do you earn for ACV?

Are you in tech?
As others mentioned, it depends. We get anywhere between 6-10% as we have tiers based on the Q target achieved..

We give a max of 6%, but there's a lot of "it depends" in the mix.

Commission rates though are highly subjective. How high is the base? How long is the sales cycle? Lots of questions.

Thank you Pachacuti, the sales cycle in our product depends on how large it’s the account, usually for small accounts (up to 50 FTEs) are between 1 and 3 moths. I’m currently in that stage as a Jr AE so my base is not too long

It totally depends on how the commission structure is set up. I get anywhere between 8-13% payout on the ACV.

Idk what the normals are in the market tbh. Also, what are you selling? SaaS is going to pay out differently than hardware, etc.

Commission is a component of COGS and directly plays off of CAC and the gross margin of the business. Some businesses can afford 12–15% and some 5-7% of TCV. Others comp differently based on inbound vs outbound, specific SKUs (SaaS vs Consulting/Services) and even further on multi-year deals.

Nothing is going to be the same business to business.

Our quota is monthly. We get the face value of the monthly subscription for the month we sold it in (i.e. if I sell a $150 subscription, I get $150). So essentially 1/12 or roughly 8% of the ACV. Three month clawback rule, and a 10% bump if we get them to pay for the entire year upfront, but it's pretty much 8%.

Assuming you really mean how much do we EARN on ACV rather than charge, it will vary by company. Mine happens to be 12% on the ARR with 3% for multi-year.

Typically see SaaS companies series B-public between 7-9% with accelerators and multi year kickers. Can get higher % at smaller SaaS companies but will run into a cap/pushback when the CEO signs commission checks he/she’s is uncomfortable with.

It really varies depending on the product you sell!

As the old saying goes, it depends. I've had 18% + commissions but those platforms were tough to sell

I've also seen as low as 6%, easier to sell and larger deals believe it or not.
