AE Fired Within 90

I watched a fellow AE get fired within 90 days of their first tech sales role. It was concerning because our manager had interviewed another candidate only a few weeks before.

The rep who was let go had high test scores and reviews, then poof!

I reached out and they said they thought the manager had a replacement of "more value" lined up, not because of current performance.

Is that a normal thing?

If it's not performance-based, it sounds like a homie hook-up or the manager is just a douche.

friends and family management style. if the seller was not fired for performance or an HR issue and was literally let go as you state above, it is better for them to go somewhere else as they can invest in a company that will invest back

High test scores and reviews are an interesting metric. Usually AEs are measured on quota attainment. Whatโ€™s going on there?

This happens when you are selling a commoditized product. Generally, it doesnโ€™t when there is specification or experience needed.

Damn sorry for him, he would certainly convey his set of skills ,experience and numbers to another place that deserves him more and appreciate him more, his manager was the one that lost him and not your friend who certainly deserves better and wish him much of luck at his next step!

Thereโ€™s something else going on. You donโ€™t have the complete story.

And I would just let it go.

If you get fired within 5 to 6 months as an AE, it is usually the company's fault.

This happened to me recently (88 days in the job, including weekends/Thanksgiving/Christmas; average deal cycle length of 90 days). Never even got a comp plan or territory, then: "we don't think it's working out, bye."

It's almost certainly not the rep's fault. Could have been an obvious culture mismatch, or a hookup like Fenderbaum said.

In my case they wouldn't even put a reason in writing lol, but it was 100% culture fit and I was already looking anyway.

In any case, keep your head on a swivel in that environment.

90 days is not out of ordinary if they are doing extremely poorly in ramp, but if there are no other signs, then definitely concerning
