Blow it up
Always try to resolve issues at the lowest level, document, and then move up the chain if needed. Be ready to show you've done what you can to resolve at your level first.

Don't burn bridges, either with the rep, your management or customers.

this doesn't strike me as a "resolve it yourself" situation, since in situations like this the person very often knows that they are poaching your accounts. this has to be resolved at a level where someone has authority to make the offending rep stop the behavior.

Exactly what I did but sadly it didn't improve at all and kept happening over and over.

Then time to get management involved. Or go hunt in his pond and see how he likes it.

Either way, if management won't resolve it then time to GTFO.

I talked to him 3x about it and he said thing, I was here first. Management sided with him untimitely as they needed sales and they wanted the top dog to handle it.

Exactly 100% yes! Started to look around and then was let go 2 weeks later. Coincidence?

Wait, so youโ€™re already gone? I was going to tell you that if management wasnโ€™t going to take care of things, then time to leave. Sounds like the problem resolved itself. Have you found something new?

Good, that sounds promising. Youโ€™re well away from that mess. Worst place I ever worked had reps taking deals from each other and management unwilling to do anything about it. Horrible place.

It made no sense to me why reps would do it, Market was down and people were getting desperate instead of staying honest.

I'm a tattle tale. I'd go to my boss ASAP. In all likelihood it's impacting their numbers too.

And it definitely will if more time is spent by his reps protecting territory internally rather than actually focusing on the competition/winning deals.

He has the largest territory so not sure why he even cared about the smaller deals! He just wanted the biggest pipeline!! He also happens to be young so I have to tell myself what goes around comes around.

I tried to talk to him first as it's the adult thing to do and he was not willing to compromise at all. Was not a good feeling. ๐Ÿ˜•

a lot of things I'm all for resolving on my own. Stealing my deals though? absolutely not. Chances are they aren't doing it on accident. They know exactly what they're doing and just don't care. Take it to leadership and let them deal with it. Often times you can get a cut of the commission from anything they've closed in your territory this way. Plus it will be documented so if the other guy continues there can be more substantial punishment.

Something someone is doing on accident that harms you, handle yourself. Intentionally stealing money and customers from you? Get management involved.

I definitely agree, I finally said something to Management and then 2 weeks later I'm gone. Time to move on!

Urg, this is irritating as fuck truth to be told. I get all triggered ๐Ÿ˜ค . For the first 3 times, I try explaining and telling to the rep politely (or lack thereof). Then I escalate on the 4th go. like buzz off dude

Literally dealt with that yesterday and it seems this has been going on for quite some time on your end. If you can't resolve it at your level. I would reach out to your manager or if they are on a different team, have your manager reach out to their manager so that they are aware of the situation. Document everything!

In a perfect world, lord of war is totally correct. If you think that you can talk to the rep first, do so. But youโ€™re ultimately going to be speaking with the manager

Frankly, if you have a sales leader who's doing their job you shouldn't need to do anything. It's the responsibility of your boss to keep track of these things and if they are not protecting you and your territory it's a much larger issue than that one sales person stealing your deals.

I'd personally have the direct conversation with your peer and flag it to leadership if it's more than an oversight.

This sounds like a leadership issue to me. If leadership in the organization is properly supporting and protecting the team these issues wouldn't be happening.

My advice, talk to your peer and figure out their perspective. If they know they are stealing your deals bubble it up to management. If management continues to turn a blind eye you need to find a new job.
