Any other DJ's in the war room? What gear you rocking with?
I've found that DJing is similar to sales in a few major ways and I noticed a lot of other sales people I know have it as a hobby or side business. I get a lot of satisfaction practicing at home and performing at parties/bars.
1)Prospecting: DJ's are always "prospecting" for new music to mix and add to their sets. I swear to god it feels like im prospecting leads on zoominfo clicking through a million songs on soundcloud and trying to see if its good or not and then adding to my list.
2) Building a personal brand - eerily similar to building a portfolio/brand as a sales person. Sharing your "wins/gigs", getting referrals from clubs/bars you worked at, and focusing on delivering results for your clients (ticket/drink sales).
3) It can be high stress and you need to perform to a large group of people. Feels like im in a demo with 10+ stakeholders sometimes when im doing a set in front of a skeptical crowd and im trying to win them over. But the feeling when you have the crowd vibing to the tunes and letting loose feels like I just knocked a demo out of the park and you ride the high.
Everyone loves great music - mixing/DJing can feel like an awesome more active way to enjoy music.
