Left management of a services offering to move into an individual contributor role in technology. Best decision. Have the leadership training and now a new field/vertical. Opens up a wide range of options.ย

Got promoted from AE to manager. Realized very quickly that it wasn't for me and ultimately moved on to another company.

Good salespeople don't always make good managers.

I was an SDR Manager and then moved back to AE. It's a lot easier to motivate yourself than other people. Having to explain somebody else's poor performance isn't easy

Director of Sales
Recently done it after a couple of very tough management gigs and I am in a happier place just focussing on myself and making more money.

I will go back into management in the future, but happy for now.

No but have watched the best sales vp i worked for go back to the IC world. he's a big dog too. had several million dollar years as an IC. Got sick of trying to manage people who were getting paid too much to half ass it. he also was too outspoken and not political enough.ย

I have been an individual contributor for a couple of years now, when do you think someone is ready to become a Sales Manager? (any attributes, accomplishments etc. that would recommend you have)
