Anyone else's company just not doing any sort of holiday party this year?

Not that Im necessarily mad, I just find it kinda funny. I started this job in 2021 and was on the committee to plan the event and we had a solid $200/person budget. It got scrapped because of Omicron so they gave everyone a $50 gift card that year, amazing deal..and last year they just did the same thing.

They havent mentioned anything for this year yet and I dont know if this is just my company being cheap AF or if this is more common now.

No holiday party this year. Given the way my company is cutting back spending I'm even surprised they're doing any sort of SKO next year.

Work for a big company, apparently one crazy night killed it from ever happening again.

I'd much rather have a gift card. I work enough. I don't want to hang out with folks.

Oh I agree. What I think was cheap was budgeting one amount for a party, then giving 25% of the value as a gift card instead. I'll take what I can get though at the end of the day.

More than half my company is remote so they don’t hold any formal holiday parties.

Exact same. I think the HQ has a small get together, but it's not huge.

What I can’t stand is when a hybrid party is suggested. Some people are together while the rest of us sit in our offices and drink alone. How is that special? I already do that on a daily basis. (Definitely not coffee in this mug)

Yeah, we have 2 different events. one was last Friday and that was an open bar and fun time. The next one will be an onsite potluck/gift exchange.

Happened yesterday that I couldn’t join. Had one virtually last year which is pretty boring. Enjoyed the Gift card prior to that.

We had one but I couldn't make it. TBH, either way I'd take the GC.

my company has plenty of parties, but being remote I don't attend.

In lieu of a company party, I prefer a private part on the floor in front of the chirstmas tree on christmas eve...wink wink nudge nudge.

We do a nice dinner out. Ours was this week and the food slapped but the music was so loud I was yelling at someone next to me to be heard.

I usually am the person who would prefer a check to a party. But they flew in the remote people and I got to meet my team’s partners, which was nice. After a year of being treated like shit, it was sort of humanizing to see everyone together.

Lowering costs is key for almost everyone, and our company isn't an exception.
