**UPDATE***Company just announced SKO next year is remote -- something to worry about?

Context: Company that had layoff last December and it has been a rougher than expected year company wide. Sales call it was announced that the annual SKO is going virtual next year instead of in-person. CRO said the famous words: "Don't look too much into this"

Should I update the resume and start looking?

UPDATE: 10% of our U.S. based workforce is now offshoring to the Philippines. 100 folks were either let go yesterday or will have their roles ramped down through the end of the year. Mostly non-sales roles but Sales was impacted some.

It's expensive to host one of these offsite meetings, and moving to virtual is a good way to cut fluff. It's a smart move.
That said, as wolf said, always be looking. It doesn't hurt to be networking and starting to put some resumes out.

Agreed, a great way to cut the fluff and much better to cut a couple 100k off the expenses as opposed to laying off a couple of people.

Yes, ABN - always be networking as well. Reach out to any recruiters you know too. No harm in checking in on the job market

Smart move for sure. Might not mean anything, but very well may...
Be ready but don't stress too much.

That's the approach I'm taking. Just put my head down but keep an eye out.

You should always have an out. This is never good news. I believe the words are “cost containment.”

Agreed with this. It's a sign of fear at the c-level. They're seeing the numbers and are fearful. What's the most justifiable big ticket item you can cut with the least amount of push back? SKO.
Maybe I'm crazy, but yeah, I'd read into this.

It’s the stage right before they can justify cutting sales headcount. Gotta watch out for yourself.

Appreciate both of you. Should also throw in PE owns the company. Been that way for a while. I'm talking casually with folks always.

Yeah, you are perform or out mode, and even just run the engine without shaking the tree too much.

Ours have been remote and honestly I prefer it. Takes too much time out of the field.

I'm not against the idea of it being remote for those reasons actually. It's just atypical from the company and with it being a down year all around just didn't know if it was a symptom to a larger thing.

It may be. Or it might just be a company being sensible with expenses so they don’t have to take more extreme measures later on. Just keep paying attention and do the best job you can.

(1) always have a foot out the door
(2) remote does save costs, but maybe there’s nothing big to announce

Cant agree with number one. If you have a foot out the door you will never be fully brought into your role and will never succeed.
Doesnt mean you wouldnt network/be on the watch for another opportunity.

How are the teams numbers? Were there any layoffs?

Team as a whole is down compared to expectations. No layoffs other than PIP's. 20% Riff last December.

We also have a virtual one. I don't think it's that weird. Before the pandemic we had SKO in Las Vegas every other year

Naaah, not a red flag. It's okay. Company is saving money perhaps. But be on the lookout.

I'm actually in a similar position so reading through these comments is insightful. Ours was originally pushed back & although they haven't officially announced it will be virtual, they've already thrown it out as an option

Guys! I need help! Here I am laid off again! This time I haven’t secured anything and the market isn’t the same as last year when I was laid off. Im from the UK.. do you know any good tech companies that are hiring in the UK who will notpotentially have to lay people off in the next 12 months?
