Anyone from Europe selling primarily to North America?

Hey savages, just wondering how many of you are out there based in Europe, but selling primarily in USA and Canada?

Do you see any disadvantage in doing so, apart from the time difference (especially with eh west cost)?

To go give you a bit of context, I`m selling an enterprise SaaS HR solution, mostly to companies with 10.000+ employees. The US market being the most mature for this kind of product, I see something like 80% of my active accounts based in the US, 10% in Canada, and only 10% in Europe.

Not me but I do sell to many clients in EU but not primarily. What’s the challenge? Is it the time zone?

Time zones for sure, but what I think might pose as a challenge sometimes, is my accent. It`s not heavy at all, quite the contrary, but still .. I imagine Americans would prefer someone with a native accent, or maybe I`m wrong :)

Yeah, me neither, it`s not like someone will tell you to your face - "hey, what`s with the accent " but still, one can wonder :)

As an American, I like talking to people with different accents. And I would buy from them IF the solution is a fit.

I'd think your accent may even be a benefit, in that you'll be different from most and can use it as a way to separate yourself. Have a great pitch, bring value, and your accent then becomes one additional way they remember you.

Appreciate the perspective, and that`s the way i am too - I`d even prefer talking to someone from another country just because of my interest in different cultures alone :)

That's me too. The time zones have been a challenge, but not insurmountable. This past year I had contacts from Poland, India, France and Australia - reminds me that it's a small world and is fun to have the different perspectives and wish them well. I still get a childlike thrill out of connecting with someone so far away.

You said it best -

a childlike thrill :) it still seems exciting to me the way we can easily connect and communicate with people around the globe.

I agree here. Your accent should be used to your advantage to stand out from the pack. I absolutely love a distinct accent. I wish I had one!

Yeah, it`s rough sometimes, especially when you have to put on your best show on a Friday night demo :)
