Anyone missing any part of working in the office? (if yes, comment what you miss)

Working on a new project and hoping to take the temperature of the room where the sales savages stand on in-person/hybrid/full remote.

I personally miss being in the office at least a little bit of the time.

If yes, let us know what you miss. If no, tell us what's better (no need to say lack of commute, that's a given).

Do you miss any part of working in the office

none. I don't miss having to wake up an hour earlier to "get ready" for work.

That’s fair. I’ve always been an early morning gym sicko but if I weren’t I’d totally feel this.

Been back 1-2 days a week. I missed the quick chat that wasn’t sparked by a Slack huddle. That and free lunch. Love a free lunch.

To be transparent, no. It has no bearing on the rest of my week. I don’t mind WFH, but I also enjoy seeing folks. As a senior member of the org I am not all that upset to lose the small talk and BS office politics.

Yeah I hear you on that last part. I’ve been pretty fortunate to be in companies where that isn’t overly precedent.

Detested wfh from the outset and been back since 2020 (small biz)

I think I am somewhere on the ADHD spectrum and working from home nearly sent me mad, I need people around me. That said I spend most of my time on the road and that's very much alone apart from the bits I'm with customers and I love it. Weird I know

I miss a ton about being in an office. I learn better in person, face to face, Human connection, etc.

Love the practicality of WFH but it's a challenge in my space. Lot of crossover with other departments (engineers, project management) where questions can go unanswered since many aren't in front of a computer all day like me.

Yeah I noticed that a lot when trying to push other departments to get things done we needed urgently.

Would go hours without answering and if you called them or did a slack huddle I got treated like the biggest asshole ever.

I've been remote for many years. I did like heading into the office every now and again to see people, and it was great to have conference rooms available to host visiting customers. But there was a time before that where I was commuting in, and I do not miss it at all. Early morning wake up, getting the kids ready for school, getting the bus for an hour long ride, and then walking a mile to work from the last stop. Do not miss it.

Appreciate the feedback. I firmly disagree with almost all of it but that's what makes this great. We're allowed to.

My office is close and open we have meetings from time to time and I stop by when I need to. Weird that people are still working full remote still tbh. Unless you are far away it doesn’t make sense to me at least

As someone who has never worked in an office, I always flip flop with my thoughts on being hybrid or full-time in-person. Definitely sounds to have its perks (better relationships, easier to get things approved/completed quickly) but also things like commute and the flexibility of remote seem to just be unmatched

I think that flexibility is actually bad for most people.

I miss the "its nice out lets get drinks at XYZ after work". Had a lot of great times nights like that.

That said, I enjoy not spending $5 everyday getting to and from work, not buying lunch out, sleeping in an extra hour, and I get way more work done. My current job is basically all remote but I wouldnt mind my next one being hybrid.

So I missed working in the office as a new hire, meeting the team and the ad hoc training.

Understanding what tools are good but not used everyday or advice after a shitty call.

That type of stuff I missed out on and led to a longer ramp up

I like my house. Much better than commuting to an office.

Lunches were nice, but I'll take the added time back in my week ALL DAY

I didnt at first for a lot of the same reasons as others, but I’m the only AE in my area and some co-workers came for a convention. We had a blast and made me miss that camaraderie.

Back in the office half the time most weeks in an outside sales position strangely enough. Before Covid that was frowned upon. I think it all depends on who you work with. If you’re with like minded sales savages in an office it’s great to be able to bounce ideas and whatnot off others. If you’re working with people who do just enough to get by and keep their job it’s painful most days. Managers are no help. I often think if I wasn’t sitting in the office how I could be making money outside of it. Just my two cents being back in the office for cold outreach and micro-management a few days every week.

Don’t miss the commute, don’t miss the distractions, water-cooler talk, and going in for the sake of going in. I did miss working face to face with great people and collaboration in person.

From a ramping perspective, we've had issues with new or struggling reps onboarding and have pretty much failed at hiring and onboarding in a remote environment. Learning face to face is truly one of the biggest things.

I go to the office everyday, although its not mandated and half the time its empty. From a perspective of building business acumen, I wouldn't have traded the time we had in office pre-Covid with senior execs to learn.

I also have just built way stronger relationships with the people that are willing and do come to the office. You pretty much are and will be forgotten if you don't come in when leadership/the rest of the team does.

My company doesn’t have offices except HQ + distribution center(s) so no option. I do miss a few things about the office from previous roles:
1) The “hard” conversations are easier f2f, so much can be misinterpreted via email/text and Zoom isn’t a sufficient enough substitute.
2) camaraderie -nothing like knowing Joe is bad at parking and being able to rib him about it a little bit.

What I don’t miss: forces relationships with people who suck.

I miss the comradely. I miss the ability to just walk over and ask someone a question. I miss the routine it allowed me to easily achieve; like going to the gym and “being on a schedule.” I miss being able to go out to eat.

But, I love the time and money I save.

I miss the energy of working on a big deal together in a "war room" setting with my team members. All the zoom and miro in the world won't replace that. I don't work from the office every day, but I do go in a 2-3 times a week for things like this.

Lunchtime brews with the crew. Had a great group, hitting quota, kicking ass, taking names. Our management was fine with us taking the occasional (more like daily) long lunch breaks and come back quite buzzed splitting multiple pitchers of good beer. Get right back on the phones for the rest of the day, sometimes the liquid courage helped close deals, every time it made CRM work a fucking nightmare. Since the pandemic I swapped that habit for occasional (daily) pulls from the bottle of rye I have stashed in my ikea desk drawer and mild depression. So yes, I miss certain aspects. But overall I'm happy getting back hours of time not having to drive, meal-prepping is way easier, and the wasted time having "hallway chats" with coworkers. I swear some people just want to come into the office because they are lonely and need 4+ hours a day blabbering to people about whateverthefuck is going on in their lives like I give a hoot. Some people just want to do the work well, make to company buckets of money, get day-drunk, and do more work making the company actual buckets of cash. #salesforlife
