Virtually sick of virtual

I'm 34 and have been meeting with prospects in person to consult/sell since I was 18. I certainly enjoy the flexibility of the hybrid environment. But frankly, I really do miss meeting with people in person. Even going into the office is different these days. Less collaboration as you can just slack a group chat and get your answer. I don't need to be in person everyday, but zoom calls just don't fulfill me like shaking someone's hand and hearing their story.

The world has changed and I have adapted. But I can't be the only extrovert who feels this way. Do I seek seemingly limited opportinities where meeting in person is more of the norm? Or accept that my job function now means sitting at a desk and talking to a screen?

Let me know your thoughts my fellow rev gen pros!!!

That awkward moment of silence before the client finally says yes and grabs the pen. The audible sound a prospect makes when they finally confess the real pain point. The seat squirming you see when you empathetically magnify the pain. And the childlike look you get when you suggest a possible cure. The gratitude expressed in the handshake after a really good call. The abundance of data you get when reading a room. Most if it still lives but it’s muted.

Yep. I miss it too.

I’m often wish I had an office to go into once every couple weeks but that’s about it.

Remote working does make it difficult to call on prospects though.

I’m in office 1-2 days a week now. My team isn’t even local to me, but to hear the org and what they are dealing with truly drives my project direction.

Come on bud, my manager keeps fighting me and I keep fighting him back not to get back to office, where the floor noise, being closely monitored, extra tasks to handle and even the possibility of getting Corona Virus:)
Instead I chose WFH, where having the right peace of mind, being with your family and even receiving visitors at your breaks, getting away from outsider environment pollution, street noise, commuting and possibility of getting to work late for any traffic problem.
Don't try to leave heaven to you name it:)
I used to like office so much same as you and even more, only before WFH became an option. 😎

I love meeting people in person. It is so much easier to read the room when everyone is physically in that room. However, a huge percentage of my meetings are virtual - even the companies with which I’m meeting are dispersed. It’s been a challenge!

The other week i was at a team offsite. The whole team was in a room for 3 days. It was fucking amazing! The energy, the tension when things were not getting done, the back and forth, it was so exciting.

I realized how much i missed it!

Now it was only that incredible because it doesn’t happen every day and we can focus on things we can’t do over zoom.

I will never go back to fully in office. But if remote teams do t get together at least 2x a year they are hurting them selfs

The world has changed and so has selling. You can close in person, and meeting face to face really helps. I think you should focus on the initial contact and use every opportunity to grab lunch/dinner/drinks once you pass the discovery phase.

I have travelled a lot in the past when I was in a non tech. Though I enjoyed but that made me tired. I personally enjoy my virtual space because I can balance things off. As a team we meet sometimes in person and that works like a charm. I am just okay meeting my prospects on a zoom.

But now it makes meeting a client in-person such an advantage, so you can look it at that way. I am sure your VP is okay to meet in person for larger deals. And most sales people will still be doing a video call with no one of video

I’ve been back on the road and meeting people in person full time for basically a year and a half at this point.

Try to schedule some in person meetings and see what happens. You can always fall back on virtual. Some people might want to see an in person sales individual also. You are not the only one sick of virtual.

When you have a great company culture, being remote is tough. I struggle with it. Miss that buzz.
