As a sales person, what is the best way for someone to ask you about your current role?

When I reach out to sales people about their time at a company, I literally ask them if they would be open to talking about the company, their quota attainment, what it's been like and their recommendations to other sales people doing the job.

I also specify I am seeking X role and wanted to ask sales to sales in a personal conversation.

This could be too much for many. A lot of people don't respond at all, and those that do are usually indicating the place is a decent company to work at.

So....as a sales person, what would be the most effective messaging someone sends to you when seeking this information?

"Hey I'm interested in learning more about X. What's the best way to connect for 10 minutes?"

I use LinkedIn with a "Hey, from seller to seller, could you tell me X." One short question. Nobody wants to complain to a potential spy. Once they see you're you, you're likely to get engagement. Then ask the next one.

Empathy, "Hey I'm wondering if you can help me, you've been at this company for x years, I saw there's a sale opening, would be great to get an inside view on the org and I know there are referral bonuses companies offer so if you feel comfortable with me after we speak you can get a referral bonus too."

Like @braintanksaid, make it short and sweet and ask for the time, not the volley of questions. Bribe with a starbucks card if you really want the deets. Put your dirty BDR cap on and get that meeting :D

Bribe them with referral bonus! Lots of companies offer significant cash, plus it gets your resume to the top of the pile.

So, "Each role has its own challenges including mine and yours right" .
"Talking about that, could you walk me through your role and tell me what do you consider as the toughest challenges you could be facing and your recs for others to get over em"!

I wouldn't ask specific questions when you first reach out. That would scare someone off, especially if they had a bad experience at that company.

Keep it simple "Hi, I'm interviewing at company X and I saw on LI you used to work there. Would you be open to chatting for 10-15min about your experience working there?"

I keep it short and simple, very similar to what braintank mentioned. I add thanks in advance though.

So it's not that simple. I always enjoy when someone just flat out asks for it. I got no problem with that kind of directness. However. Just because people are in sales doesn't mean they are comfortable with that.

I have been asked for referrals to specific roles. All I did was ask why they wanted it and why they thought it was a fit. If the answer made sense..... referral away.

(Hypothetical Scenario) If you had to take up another role in your org along with sales, which one would you go for?
