At career crossroads...really need advice.

Good day, savages!

I find myself at a dilemma. I am a Sales Executive at a FinTech, one of the big ones in middle and back office automation. I just got into this role ~ 7 months back and am doing okay. However, I came from an Interdealer Broker background, and quite recently, the last few months, one of the companies I used to work for have been trying to get me to come back. The Director himself asked me out for a lunch to get me to come back and offered me essentially whatever I wanted for salary. So for some backstory, this is my background:

I spent my first two years as a broker (1 year trainee, then hopped into commodity broking at another company as a full-fledged broker, which is also the current company hiring me). I then left to join the tech sales industry, spent 7 months as SDR, 7 months as SDR Manager, and finally, where I am now at another org as a Sales Exec.

Overall, I like the role. It's challenging, it is non-monotonous and it is something I can see myseld doing long-run. However, there are some elements of the role I haven't quite enjoyed i.e. internal administrative crap, which is like 50% of the job. Mostly, my organization is extremely toxic from a management standpoint, and all the employees have been complaining about that (I don't get involved there though, I still am on the receiving end of toxicity).

Broking is also something I enjoy very much, although it can be on the more "repetitive" side where the job involves calling your customers (banks, hedge funds, physical traders) and trying to spur business. However, when markets open and move, its bloody exciting. Moreover, at this organization, the colleagues are super-familiar and very nice in general - in fact - an ex-colleague was the one who vouched heavily for me to come back.

So what happened was, I decided last week to speak to them and let the director know I'd like to have a discussion around coming back. He immediately set up a call with the owner of the company. I gave them a fairly high number for my pay (50% up from my current). Less than 24 hours later, I got the job and whatever I asked for.

So here is my dilemma - am I doing the right thing? What if I implode 1-2 years down the road? Would I be able to get back into tech? What about career progression - its very iffy with broking.

Hence, I reach out to you, to ask for advice. What should I do?

The great thing about this is no one can take your experience from you. Do what's best for you and your family and don't look back. ❤🦊

For a 50% bump I'd already be gone. Don't let fear of the future scare you into missing out on the present. Presently, you stand to make a lot more money than you do now. You don't know what the future holds, you might be even better off in a couple of years. Make the jump.

Think of the shit you don't like about this job and what this company can do to make it better; make that a part of your agreement to return.

a 50% pay bump is a risk worth taking. Especially if its at a company you've been at before and enjoyed working for

You need to take a look at the reasons why you left. Don't just chase quick/easy money - where do you want to be in 5 years? 10?

Take the pay, take the job. Keep your skills sharp on the side, then if you need to break back into tech.

being in a place that WANTS you, if a big deal. and they are willing to pay what you want and has solid leadership?

Sounds like a solid place to go.

This will not hurt your chances of going back into Tech.

you got the experience under your belt you could interview for AE/sales exec roles when ever you want now.

Take the jump, take the money and see what you can do/

50% bump, why would you not? You got into tech, why wouldn´t you get in again?

I say it depends on your age. If you are early or mid-career then definitely make the jump. If you are later career then you want more stability.

That being said your post seems to indicate you are leaning to going back. Though most are saying take the 50% increase that could come with more pressure and higher expectations on you than when you were there previously.

If it were me based on what you said I would take the increase and go back.
