Average base salary offerings in sales

Based on the sales comp guide just posted by Bravado, am I the only one not seeing offers like these?

I was 117% last year. Currently sitting near 50% of goal as of today, March 1. Been in a plethora of industries, sold complex software to hardware and integrated on-prem technology. I have not yet built a spaceship, but I could if you'll show me how.

I have had 27B dollar companies say we are hiring for 45K base, Series B offering 50K, random companies going up to 65K.

What questions do you have? What exactly should I be doing that I am not?

I would not trust that comp guide. So many of the numbers are off. Highest paid reps in all of the USA are in Chicago? No. Average AE tenure is 11 months? No. Etc etc.

Let Repvue, Glassdoor, and talking to other AEs in your market be your guide.

Agreed. I have more questions about where the information came from and how many people was it based off of?

There's also no way the information can be verified...salespeople are notorious liars about comp.

60/60 is a pretty standard split for a general AE, in my experience and market (Austin, although it matters less when remote).

I'd say MM - 100/100.

Ent - 120/120.

What do other people think?

I don’t think a single number in that is right since almost all of it was scraped from here and we are all inaccurate at best. If you want a mid-high 6 figure OTE you realistically need to live on one of the coasts and work in SaaS

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
I don’t live on a coast and I’m being offered $300k+ OTE FWIW

I thought you were in the NY area? But also you are a savage with a lot of experience so that definitely helps

I live on one of the coasts, and $45K base would not be a livable wage out here.     But agreed, it's living on a coast and SaaS that leads to higher OTE - though I do know a pharma rep who makes about the same as I do.

Most people lie about their compensation or at least exaggerate it.
Also, there are huge geographic disparities.

Yeah, seems to be quite a bit we don't know.

From what I have seen in my recent search, average salaries (50/50) are commonly:
SMB: 60-70 Base / 120-140 OTE
MM: 70-80 Base / 140-160 OTE

And I'm not yet at ENT level so I can't offer much insight here.

I think the numbers in the Bravado report are skewed, but it is still true that many places are hiring for sales talent.

They are ALSO being twice as careful with their hiring. I've seen a real hesitancy.

This was pretty accurate for me 5+ years ago but I can’t speak to today’s pay.

I sell outsourced business services (one stop shop for the back office - VC/PE SMB/Mid-Market) and my OTE is $270k. Total 2021 comp sailed well over $200k.

The money is out there, but you have to have something to offer in a competitive field to get it. Companies will only pay that much if they need rock stars to beat out the competition.

I wouldn't go solely on this report, anytime it's self reported it can be very tricky. Also larger orgs usually have the ability to pay less because of name recognition and so they don't have to offer as much to get a talented candidate pool.

Could just be a mixture of what many said.

I have people say no thanks because they want SaaS experience. Like WTF, only been involved in it since 2018 and advanced tech my whole life. Funny how people want to act like SaaS is something unique and requires different sales fundamentals.

On the flip side, I have people reaching out now regarding 150k+, 100K+ base salaries, and much higher OTE's with high tech software development companies.

I think the only thing I changed was just make sure my resume and LI was very specific.

Sales targets met last year. What am I at currently this year. Can I work and manage relationships.

Get savage I guess and don't have any shame in advertising yourself and what you do.
