Bay Area (CA) Territory Divide

Work for a SaaS company and we are adding a second bay area rep to handle the South Bay and Peninsula. What cities do you normally make the dividing line? Would you consider Fremont to be East Bay or South Bay? What city would normally start the Peninsula or South Bay for your team? Thx!

So you have one rep with SF/Oak and North/East Bay and one SJ and South Bay?

Depending on what you're selling, the South Bay is usually going to be a better territory than that of your NB rep. I'd go all the way to Milpitas for EB and give that to your SF/NB rep.

Most people from the Bay would consider Fremont to be East Bay

Agreed. I think what is being considered is if it goes to the SB rep or the rep covering SF and EB, but saasesforthemasses hasn't come back to confirm, or what the target accounts consist of. SB rep will already have Mountain View, Sunnyvale, SJ, Santa Clara, San Mateo, Palo Alto. There's a lot in the SB.

Yep! Thatโ€™s 100% accurate. Thanks for the responses here super helpful. Iโ€™m actually the SF rep but have a lot of sway in the initial outline of the territory Iโ€™m giving up to the new rep. This is super helpful.

I hope it is helpful! Make the case for retaining as much of the EB as you can.

Curious about last year: did your SF region give you more opportunity than the SB did?

Thank you! Very helpful.

Yes, SF/East Bay was more productive for larger deals. South Bay was more transactional, more deals but smaller deal sizes. Lots of startups with 1000 users or so. The East Bay and SF region was more productive for more enterprise deals. I currently have set a line at Fremont and North for EB and SFO and North for SF. I want to press a bit to go further south on the Penninsula, but I think my effort might be better spent at retaining a few holdover opps for the San Jose area that I've been working up. As usual, it's a negotiation and I also want to be a team player and help the company grow (we're a series c startup that have thankfully been able to grow when other companies are having a harder time given we're in a bit of a niche).

The city and the south bay have the most value here. Everything else is filler. South Bay is anything below SouthSF IMO. North Bay & East Bay will have a very small footprint in comparison to those other two.

I think you split it based on $$ rather then location
