Best tips for hosting local events for prospects?

Hello savages,

I'm a few months into a new Enterprise Sales role where I'm dealing with mainly global/national financial services/insurance companies. My local market has some of the biggest players out there and I'm looking to host a golf event in the metro area. The goal is try to market it as a networking event for their peers, hosted by my company. No vendor presentations they have to sit through or anything. Ideally, this becomes a semi-annual event where we can improve each time.

Does anyone have tips/best practices for this? Or better yet, what NOT to do when reaching out? We are aiming to get 10-20 VPs or higher in assorted technology roles. We plan on doing non-golf events in the future as not everyone is a golfer, but wanted to trial this to see how it goes.

If anyone has other ideas that have been effective (besides dinners, having SMEs speak, etc.), I'm open to creative ideas as well.

Thanks

How's your network?

Are you going to be reaching out to these people cold? Or are you tapping your existing network?

85% prospects (mainly cold outreach), 15% clients. My network definitely could be improved upon

Try to bring in a partner with an established network. Offer to pick up the tab if they can fill the attendance list.

This. Nothing is worse than investing the time/energy/money into an event like this and 2 people show up.
Invite a partner or company in your eco-system that you can work alongside with to help fill the roster.
In my experience, bank on 50% of your RSVP list not showing up.

The amount of work you’re going to have to do is going to be incredible. Between convincing your biggest clients and biggest targets to set aside the time then add in all the other stuff you need to do to run an event like this, I’d recommend a ready made event. Can you get a box for an nfl/mlb/nba game instead? You have the location, weather doesn’t matter, should have local loyalty etc. find something where most of the work can be offloaded.

I NEVER make plugs like this, but this book is awesome on hosting parties/networking events.

The Two-Hour Cocktail Party by Nick Gray. Tons of ideas to pull from and how to make it memorable. Good luck!

Only advice i have is start reachout FAR in advance, these guys are busy and schedule far out so no matter what the event you're highly unlikely to get new signups in the final 30 days not for lack of interest but lack of availibility
