Overcoming 2 back to back short tenure roles.

Officially entered my flop era.

After losing my job due to workforce reduction in September of '22 after only 6 months I thought I bounced back by landing a job at a well known company. If I did more research I'd have found since being bought out it became a miserable churn and burn, super pushy transactional sales environment with 50+ hour work weeks. Not at all all what I was looking for.

I lasted 7 weeks.

So now with all my previous confidence in my skills shattered, I'm applying in a super tough market. I've been tempted to keep that job as "present" on LI because we all know you're virtually dead to recruiters if you're unemployed.
But should I? Or should I put an end date? Or just leave it off altogether?

PS. 100+ applications and only 3 recruiter screens later, I welcome any recommendations on places that are hiring and won't be too concerned with a layoff and a short tenured stint.

I fully realize it is easier said than done, however, I would become more proactive. 1. Work your complete network - everyone you know - and be very clear on the opportunity and type of organization you want to work with... 2. Make a list of organizations you are interested in and begin to reach out to them directly. If you can bring value, I assure you that one of them will find a place for you. It is a sales process: initial contact, discovery conversation focused on them, and a solution presentation focused on solving their need.

Absolutely no pain in leaving the gig on your LinkedIn. You’ve got a month or so until that becomes a lie. Then kill it. You can explain the grand tech slaughter easily if you have to. We’re all dealing with this dance. It’s no big deal.

Check out the “who’s hiring AEs” post Gasty put up a couple of days ago. Some solid options there. Best of luck.

Here is my tip as someone who was laid off at the senior level and got a new role in 30 days: STOP APPLYING.

Your only way in is through your network and referrals. That’s legit the secret.

No harm it keeping that role as current on LI especially if it is still a recent change.
A lot of networking advice below that I would also take, everyone wants a referral bonus, anything you can do to make yourself more competitive is a win, and asking for a referral takes very little time

Don’t put a 7 week stint on your resume. It basically didn’t happen. And if you don’t say anything no one will ask about it.

What I would do is put a bogus “consulting” company on your resume to fill the gap. You can consult on anything, it doesn’t matter. And you can put the dates of your fictitious consulting company back a few years. When asked, you can talk about your entrepreneurial activities and side business, etc. or whatever. But that is how you fill a growing gap and hide a short stint job.

Good luck in your search!

In the current landscape of tech sales, you are going to care about it more than those interviewing you. The reason you have only 3 screens is more likely attributed to the fact that there are a million applications with all the AEs out of work

Remove the 7 week job.
Remove end dates from resume. Use years only.
So for that last job, just enter 2022-2023.
Leave it at that.

Tons of sales people do it and tons of companies accept that resume format for sales people.

It is tough. But we all have had screw ups and no one is perfect. Do your best and don't compare yourself to others. As others have stated just delete the 7 months.
Good luck on the job hunt

It happens, everyone knows that sales is at a low in the current market with low morale, rely on your network to hook you up! There's no more easy money and opportunities available through pure job applications and recruiters coming in

Do you still apply for a position if you fall short in some of the "requirements"

What’s the best companies to reach out to for SDR / BDR roles for a career changer looking for solid base comp and decent OTE (financial advisor made 120k last year 3 years hit quota every year cold calling running the sales process so I think I have relevant AE skills but I get taking a step down since I have no SAAS sales skills. (However I have 1.5 years of IT recruiting experience where I also crushed quota and learned a bit about IT broadly) Thanks
