Book not for sale

I need a hobby besides my job...and I want to do it with zero intent of it becoming profitable. Which...for folks like us, is god damn near impossible haha. But wanted to center the character around a sales guy/gal who stumbled into the career field and somehow managed to stumble upward. What ideas/plot points do you think could be tied in? Any inspo would help.

Inspo-wise, Mike Judge’s work pretty much nailed the formula. Office Space, Idiocracy, Silicon Valley, and King of The Hill are gold for what constitutes great character writing.

Guy on a backpacking trip through South America stumbles upon a drug operation and ends up kidnapped. Rather than killing him, he gets forced into working for them.

Eventually, his charismatic personality lands him a job as a low-level dealer. After a few years experience, he's worked himself up a little in the org to where he isn't under constant watch.

Escapes, and eventually makes it back to his country where he applies his recently developed sales skills to the professional world. Eventually working his way into a VP position at a big fancy company. Uses a lot of the concepts of narcotics sales within his own sales org making it the most successful team in the entire company.

Throws a party for his people to celebrate surpassing some awesome milestone. Arranges for some cocaine to be delivered to said party.  Goes to answer the door to receive said cocaine and gets shot in the face by none other than his fellow backpacker who was rarely mentioned throughout the portion of the story of their time in captivity making you realize he totally screwed the dude over while climbing the ranks in the cartel and in his eventual escape.

Last chapter reveals that the story was being narrated by his fellow captive as it goes back through to explain how he ended up being the one to kill your main character.

The sales guy accidentally gets VC funding for a drunk joke while out one night in San Jose because they have the same homophone name as another cofounder.

Write about some guy who stumbled into stock sales, took over the firm, had runaway success, dived headfirst into every vice imaginable, had his life turn to 💩, was targeted by the feds, went to jail, and eventually went to NZ to teach people how to sell pens.
That would be a great book to write.
