If you were tasked with building out an enterprise sales team from scratch today - what would you do?

Which roles do you hire first (and why)? Where do you focus your time? What are the key metrics you focus on?

Any useful resources, software, advice, lessons-learned-the-hard-way - all are welcome.

Define what your team must bring you - building teams often times leads to hiring without thinking behind.

Graduate and slow hiring with quality is better than grabbing whoever applies - remember of their training, onboarding and support needs especially in the first weeks.

Try to make a healthy mix of super seniors vs fresh starters - senior reps will bring hell lot of knowledge and industry contacts - whilst fresh folks will bring drive and doer attitude (if you get the right people)

Second this, not sure what the budget would be for FTEs but a nice mix of solid pros and driven upstarts can really push things far.

I have done this. Keep it simple. Hire 2–4 (depending on budget) salespeople including at least 1 internal hire (from inside team or operations). It’s key to have somebody who knows the business in some way.

metrics should also be simple. Build pipeline, find what works, scale up.

Choose your CRM and leadgen tools wisely.

Don’t miss on your first hires... if you get that right it makes the rest so much easier.

Good luck!! Love to see the building some from nothing peeps on here.

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
Go get 2-3 hunters who aren't going to rely on marketing or BDRs. No whiners. Just people who have been hunting for 7-10 years at the least. Get people who know the field and have the rolodex if possible.

You should handle marketing with the help of a freelancer in the initial stages.

And you should try executive to executive reachout as well.
