Buyers Can Be Dicks

Subject seems a little obvious, but is less focused on specific situations where buyers have been dicks and more focused on Sales Gurus on Linkedin constantly pointing the finger back at salespeople.

"Salespeople get ghosted because they don't listen. Salespeople don't get responses to prospecting content because they're too generic. Salespeople should stop holding back on price, it seems shady"

Ever consider that people who buy software are people, and therefore can be complete and total assholes with little to no repercussion based on the power they hold?

The balance won't shift, but stop peddling your own shit on the back of constantly giving buyers a pass for being shitty people.

Fucking War Room man...god that felt good.

I had a former customer who was such an ass I put him in MY spam folder. Dude was arrogant, narcissistic, and just total piece of shit. I refused to sell to him. I have since left the company but am unsure if he is still in that spam folder or if anyone took him out lol. Even my extended team (CSM, SE, renewals) hated getting on the phone with this guy.

That's a serious big nuts move, I love it. Let him rot in the annals of spam hell with all of the other shitty prospects/customers out there.

That is why I always tell new reps the #1 thing they should do is build a shit ton of pipe. Once you get to that point you have all the power... I can chose to walk away from any cycle I want and still have enough to hit my number. Buyers can sense desperation, and they feed off it.ย

This is the real advice, max your prospects and choose who to work with. Success breeds success, customers want to work with winners.

Love this. Our leadership teaches and ENCOURAGES our sales team to vet all potential customers. Turn the discovery process into an interview to see if WE want to sell to this person.

Yeah this is a valid point. We tend to always look inward and find out what we're not doing right but the truth is that buyers are fucking liars. I'm fucking handsome and charming, so when I can't secure a meeting or move a deal, it's usually their fault for being stupid and incompetent jerkoffs.

Hahahah I can't get a read on this comment. Feels like some sarcasm, but having a hard time understanding where it's directed. You had me in the first half.

Paddy is actually dead serious here lol. The only time he's joking is if he says he let the intern out of the liquor cabinet.ย

This is actually one of my more serious comments believe it or not. I'm not exactly being humble but fuck it, projecting confidence is what we need as sales reps who face constant rejection.

Well then let me rephrase my response to FUCK.YES. Love the attitude and BigMeech's comment is so strong. Nothing like indicating to a buyer that you don't need them and can actually afford to walk away if they don't want to participate in the process. Well said gents.

The customer is not always right. In fact, they're usually a moron and an asshole.

- Larry David

But seriously though, I don't put up with disrespect or abuse for any amount of money. There's a million prospects out there and only one of me. They need me, I don't need them.

One of my first customers in my new position straight up lied to my boss. Said that I guaranteed something when I had in writing what the quote included. Throughout human existence - there has ALWAYS been shitty people who think they do no wrong. Just cut them out and move on, not worth your energy!

Just left a meeting that I had to fly out to where the prospect called me an hour beforehand, asking me to bring 10 lunches or else some team members were going to dip out and get their own lunch. I agreed, and get there only to present to 4 people. MF'er still asked for discounts with a a stupid lookin straight face after I showed how many hundreds of dollars a month theyd save + minutes saved per patient treated, along with a laundry list of other dickhead moves.

My cheeks can only spread so far smh.

Plenty of shitty prospects/customers. Sometimes the ones who were nice in the sales process somehow become dicks after the fact. Honestly, that's worse.

One of the greatest skills you can develop is an understanding which deals/companies/prospects are worth pursuing and which should simply be avoided. Our fear of loss keeps us engaged when our experience tells us otherwise. Personally, I get overly optimistic. I have learned to walk away and apply my time elsewhere.ย  (and sometimes you will be surprise by the attitude change of the problem prospect!)

Indeed they do. Nothing better than having a strong champion so when you go to procurement you can tell them to fuck off in the form of not discounting, then when they go back to ask if we really need this the answer is a resounding "stop fucking around and get this done for us please".

MAPs are important. The biggest blocker is the tool you use to make them. Its easier to have it listed in an email as opposed to drawn up in excel, but there are some good softwares out there that really help with this and are well received by prospects too.
