Can we all agree this is bullshit?

One thing that I cant stand when linked in Influencers tell us is when we:

"need to know our customers business so well we could work there"

Should we understand our prospects? yes.

be able to work there???? Seriously?

Do they actually believe this? or is it some stupid catch phrase to make them feel important.

I do NOT believe you need to be able to work there. You just need to learn about their big problems and explain how you can solve it.

um. no I don't need to know their business that well. I need to know at least the top 3 positives and top 3 opportunity areas. Smooth sailing after that.

Its impossible to know every single business you call into - especially to the point of working there.

But I get the Influencers POV - do your research so you can offer something valuable to the client, not just pitch your product.

More influencer BS. You need to understand their needs, but nobody can understand that much about all of their prospects.

If you're talking about an embedded Strategic Account Manager where the company is their only line of work...then yes. If you're not even calling into specific, single verticals but need to be flexible, then no. Ain't nobody got the time for that.

-Yes, research the company so you don't sound like an idiot.
-Yes, learn enough of their lingo and what's important to them so you can speak to it - and be prepared to be educated as you go (don't assume you know everything).
-Yes, understand the value of what you're selling to a company such as theirs.
-Yes, make them feel as though their company is respected and a great place to be. It goes a long way.

But sound like you work there? No. Total overkill nonsense.

solid breakdown for sure!
I cant imagine what it would be like to only have 1-3 accounts to manage.

I feel like you're taking it a bit too literal. I imagine they simply mean that you need to truly understand their challenges and priorities.

UGH yeah enough with that crap (I might have worked with them...). Sounds like a mid-level manager that failed spectacularly at most things in life, but excels at lecturing a team.

I agree with you, but I also think that less time on LinkedIn and more time on Bravado has lead to me living a happier life

I sell to companies that range from tech startups, to grocery stores, agencies, dating apps, to clothing websites and everything in between. If I needed to know every prospects industry I would just need to become google.com itself ๐Ÿ˜ญ
