Career insight/advice

I'm 28 y/o with 5 years of B2B sales experience and total of about 8-9 years of sales experience in general. I've had experience from being a sales manager in a retail store to being an account manager in the SMB space and also being strictly an account executive hunting in the SMB space. I've done and closed deals that are in 1m+ TCV range. I'm currrntly in a position that pays me 75k base & 35k Commision. I'm killing my numbers and probably willl end the year closer to 150k.

My question, where should I be moving towards next? I'm currrntly not a big fan of my work place and looking for something new but finding myself with companies that want to interview me for entery level AE roles and having a hard time getting response back on enterprise roles. I'm getting honestly burnt out on the hunting side and want to go for Account Management again but also feeling a little disrespected on my experience and time I've had doing this when I'm being reached out to and made offers of 90k OTE and seeing those positions being posted out as "recent grads" in the desorption.

Just looking for some advice and kind of gauge what you would do in my shoes

I’m a bit confused about your current position. Based on your post, I thought you were SMB, but one of your replies says Mid Market. If you’re mid market, you may want to look at MM roles at a company that has Enterprise to move into after some time in MM, but will offer a better salary in the meantime.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the insight that is actually what my current thinking is as well. I have a lot of SMB background experience but currently in MM as a AE.

If you want to switch fields, expect to do it is a entry level AE

What do you mean by switch fields? I’m not looking to transition into a different industry just continue upward in my current experience.

If you expect to switch industries, expect to start at entry AE, its the nature of the beast. You cant go from entry level restaurant tech ae to enterprise level cybersecurity. Its a whole different beast and you need years of experience in the industry to get that. You’d be lucky to land an entry level ae cyber without cyber experience as an sdr even I would say

I understand what you’re saying but I didn’t say anything about switching industries. Im a fairly experienced AE selling tech in the Mid Market space currently with a background in both retail management & experience in SMB account management and hunting.

I would like for an MM role rather than Enterprise, that being said though, 1m+ deals are enterprise level for lots of companies, so not sure what the issue is for you there
