Salespeople, by default, contact people they don’t know and ask them for money. What is this question?

No question. Your right. But chances are they may not know then but somebody they know knows them. Hence not a cold call. At least by my definition.

Ain’t nobody born with a network. It’s gotta get built from somewhere. Yeah- cold contacts are necessary.

Well everyone I know when they start has some sort of a network. It may not be large but there is a network. It could be old uncle Pete or Aunt Sara. But I get your point.

Network and cold is the way. Do both, work hard, do what you say you’re going to do and customers will help

They call me Daddy, Sales Daddy
Well Tommy, Cold calling is necessary skill. And like any skill if you don’t use it, you lose it.

Well Sales Daddy, your right. It is a necessary skill. I learned it in my one year of IBM sales training back in the day. Used to be necessary in a big way. Also stop in and make a cold call. if you did not get to see the person you talked to his/her admin that was almost as good. You helped start a relationship.
Unfortunately, that does not happen much lately as no one will let you in the door. Same with the telephone or video. If you do not have the correct number or email you cannot get through on the phone. In addition, many executives work from home now. Maybe a cold email, or a cold chat, but not a call.
In addition, read the book - "Champions Never Make Cold Calls" - by Danny Creed. Perfect no, but a damn good case, absolutely.
At least in the businesses I have been in you do not get to use too much anymore. But I have always been big $$ B2B sales. Even back in the day at itty bitty machines I sold large systems.

Live Filthy or Die Clean
Cold calling is never going to die as much as every newage consultant wants to push AI emails and LI posts.
Sure networking is great but you'll never get far in sales in this age without cold calling.

We may be talking about the same thing. How many people can you actually cold call and get through in business on the telephone these days?
Take a look at Danny Creed's book, "Champions Never Make Cold Calls". You will see the relevance.

It sounds like someone just did a bit or research or precall work - still a cold call no matter how you dress it up.
I only read non sales books as I imagine most book authors the same kind of con artists that sales training consultants tend to be...one day I can charge as much and provide as little value as them...THE DREAM.

Well Filth so you know I am not a sales consultant. I am or was the guy with his feet on the street and I have a different experience. So I go for high-impact, low-cost lead generation....
Its good you never read sales books. "Champions Never Make Cold Calls" is not a sales book. It is a networking book, and it works.
Besides it looks like by the survey everyone feels they need to make cold calls. I get it, but I am not sure we all think of the same thing when we think of cold calls.
My best,
Tom

I would like to ask when was the last time YOU made a cold call. Your background looks like you haven't had to smile and dial in quite a while.
