Climate Change and everything is getting a bit depressing

EDIT: I just wanted to thank everyone in the comments for having my back and telling me to stop reading news and socials. If you come across this post... Well read comments and you'll likely feel much better. Thanks savs.

Unedited bit below:

I feel really stressed lately. Not enormously stressed because it's nothing I can influence. It's like everyone and everything is on edge. Do you feel like that? Or am I just in need of a vacation.

It seems like there's constant news about wild weather effects. Forest fires and fires, floods, temperatures soaring, massive hail storms, news about Gulf stream collapsing...

Constant layoffs everywhere. A lot of the people I know have money to buy a house but most say there will be a crash soon. I'm worried about losing my job and it's eating into my sleep. A lot of people here are struggling and looking for jobs...

Al stresses me out. Not in sales per say... But it will eliminate roles and what will those people do. Do sales as well then. The education system. What's being taught so kids can keep up with it.

NASA is desperately looking for TRAPPIST-1 planets that are friendly for habitation. Like why? Because they know?

Anyone have any words of optimism? Or is it just that I spend too much time on socials and I should manage my stress better? Was it always bad and I never paid attention?

I guess I'll lessen the screen time anyway and have found a way to do so on my phone. Digital wellbeing tools eh.

You're likely watching too much news. I'd filter how much negative stuff you're watching through the day.
Just remember that there's things you absolutely no control over.
Put your phone/laptop down, go for a walk or to the gym.

^^^ this. Doom and gloom sells. Don't give them your attention.
If you need a dose of optimism with your science, anything David Attenborough does has a healthy dose of "here's what we all can do" to accompany the alerts he delivers. It goes a long way to providing some hope, which honestly is needed.

100% and
NGL but im actually considering coming off Bravado because 90% of whats posted on here at the moment is doom and gloom, job losses etc. Not bashing anyone that is posting that and I genuinely sympathize and feel for those who are being let go but its not good for ones mental health to be surrounded by negativity and this website is a lot of that right now.
As for the OP post, @Gyro25 and @Sunbunny31 said it best, your news feed is whats causing you to think this way and i have found there is a direct correlation between the negativity you consume and your ability to sell well.
Cut off the negative channels, reduce your social media time because 99% of it is a drain on you and keep close to friends and family and those that lift you up.

Yeah I've been thinking about it... Then again most days I can help and try to offer few words of wisdom and sometimes I need it myself. At least here, people help. A lot. I think as well that no one really talks that much when things are good. You should take some time for recharging and off socials!

I find the fuckery rather comforting. It can be a circle of jerk of "I'm Mr super duper Important on LI and have x followers", but that's in the minority imo.

You know what travels faster than the speed of light? Negative News. It's not you. And it's not new. All this sells better. Reset the socials on your gadgets, and you might start witnessing the good.

I can empathize with your thoughts. Thereโ€™s so much crap news, it can be hard to ponder what the future looks like.
Like @oldcloser says, focus on the now and live. No point looking in the rear-view mirror or in the crystal ball.
If it gets too much, speak to a medical professional. It can help a lot.

For what this is worth, before my greasy sales career I did my undergrad in climatology with the goal of being a researcher.

My final year, we had a phenomenal teacher in our climate systems class who pushed us hard to challenge ourselves and norms.

I did an in-depth of research paper on climate systems, and the effects of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane.

Have we affected these systems? Yes. Do we know the degree to which these systems will change? No.

The IPCC is considered the holy grail of climate reporting, and they know their models cannot predict the future because no one can.

We did a ton of modelling in our research, and yes increased carbon/methane/other greenhouse gases creates pressure drops which lead to more severe, short-duration storms.

However, we absolutely have the technology to deal with this. Political willpower is a different story.

Zoom out. Most of the headlines are simply done to sell ads online. Most are taken out of context, my favourite being โ€œrecord heat day in โ€˜xโ€™ yearsโ€.

My two centsโ€ฆ

You hear a lot about Climate Change and all the perils around it. Buy into maybe 10% and realize the other 90% is marketing.

Burn Towns, Get Money
Take a deep breath. Or a few.

Take off your shoes, go put your bare feet in some nice, green grass.

Spend 10 minutes being grateful for all that you have.

Ask yourself what is within your control, and what is not. Build a mental bubble around yourself, where things that you can't control are muted, like a TV playing in the next room or an announcement at a different gate at the airport. Focus on what you can control. Commit to addressing these things with your full willpower.

Realize that you have the ability to create space, mentally reframe, and catch a respite from the panic porn that's playing on every screen, everywhere.

Then, get back in there and earn some commission.

Has massive growth ever led to mental breakdown? I have been hustling since 17 years old chasing to strive for success doing odd jobs and unintentionally ended up with Edtech K12 Sales as my first official sales job - A toxic culture with no employee respect eventually me to switch after 18 months. Since reps in Edtech are highly valued, had no option but to continue in Edtech sales. This time it was higher education segment, things looked good in the first few month but slowly it started adapting methodologies like the old Edtech since the management was changed. I decided to move out and switch to B2B SaaS. After 13 months of learning & success, my aspirations werenโ€™t matching with the growth vision shared by my manager and ended up being desperate to switch. Got to a AM-Inside Sales role with a 50% hike. Guess what? It led to my mental break down since the culture is pathetic. In entire journey, all challenges never affected my performance but l am losing the spark to glow and hustle eventually. While I plan to switch, a token of guilt is still alive. The experiences have made me far better and strong as a BDR but blank about the next steps in my career. Thanks for reading. Do share your thoughts.
