Is there a good place to start selling ? I have personality but have no clue how to sell. I’d like to change careers, yet I just had a baby boy. I’m the provider making about 68k a year and feel like I can’t go below that without a struggle.

Help!!

Find the “companies hiring” thread here in the war room.

Look for SDR/BDR positions. Use LinkedIn and search jobs. Go through the Tech Sales U on bravado.

You should be able to find positions that allow you to make that no problem.

Good luck!

My suggestion is to find an organization that is known for their training and mentorship. For me— early on in my sales career, I worked for ADP. Probably one of the best organizations for anyone starting off in this field IMO. That said, it’s a very fast paced environment with a lot of accountability. They traditionally offer a very competitive base salary and very good commissions. Additionally, you need to prove yourself on a regular basis so it’s not a good place for anyone looking to plod along. If you’re successful you will do very well! Best of luck!

dang this is a super hard question to answer because we dont know you haha.

but ig you have no clue how to sell or no experience then you need to find places that like to hire green sales ppl.

Like:
insurance, HR software (for some reason), Sales Development roles ect.

lol I never would have guessed this about HR software. I used to sell into HR. It was hell. HR gets purchasing power like once every 5 years.

I would have said Tech BDR a few years ago, but it has been a bloodbath recently. As a BDR you aren't really expected to know how to sell. All you need is to come with a good attitude and a willingness to pick up the phone. You will learn if you get on with a good company. 60 - 70K OTE should be a very attainable salary range as a BDR

Check out a few articles on the academy tab. They are helpful.

A place with good training, which can be hard to find is the best to start.
Depends on the industry/sales role but there is a good chance you will be above the 68k

Congratulations on your baby!
With the financial obligations you have, I'd be looking to start with positions that have a good base salary with commission for the OTE (or On Target Earnings). Many BDR/SDR jobs have a range that falls within your current salary - BUT the caveat is that it can depend on where you live. I take it you're currently employed, so you have the luxury of being able to take your time and see what you find.
Also, if you really don't know much about sales, there's a Sales Academy here where you can learn a lot about the processes and terminology so you're not totally cold when you start. I believe there's a $100 fee that's refundable once you complete the course, but @Gastycan provide details.
Good luck to you!

You`ve just had a baby, so.. if possible put this decision on hold for a bit maybe. I mean, it depends on the kind of support you have as a parent, but babies really will take a lot of your energy. A new job will also take a lot of your energy. If you`re getting by with your current job, start searching but only settle for something really good, so all that stress when switching jobs while being a parent to a newborn pays off.

I`m talking out of experience here, I`ve had twins 2.5 years back, and when they were around 3 months, i switched jobs. It was tremendous pressure, a lot of stress, ultimately paid off, but.. i don`t know if I`d do it again that soon..

You may want to take a swing at a call center environment just taking inbound activity. You’ll get a veritable boot camp in qualifying and politely disqualifying. All of it applies in a hunter role. The money should not be an issue. Good luck!

Has massive growth ever led to mental breakdown? I have been hustling since 17 years old chasing to strive for success doing odd jobs and unintentionally ended up with Edtech K12 Sales as my first official sales job - A toxic culture with no employee respect eventually me to switch after 18 months. Since reps in Edtech are highly valued, had no option but to continue in Edtech sales. This time it was higher education segment, things looked good in the first few month but slowly it started adapting methodologies like the old Edtech since the management was changed. I decided to move out and switch to B2B SaaS. After 13 months of learning & success, my aspirations weren’t matching with the growth vision shared by my manager and ended up being desperate to switch. Got to a AM-Inside Sales role with a 50% hike. Guess what? It led to my mental break down since the culture is pathetic. In entire journey, all challenges never affected my performance but l am losing the spark to glow and hustle eventually. While I plan to switch, a token of guilt is still alive. The experiences have made me far better and strong as a BDR but blank about the next steps in my career. Thanks for reading. Do share your thoughts.

I just have to tell someone… For some perspective, our overall avg order size is about 12k and yesterday I closed a 130k deal and another 50k at my next appointment. I am excited as the year has been pretty tough in my market and big sales like this help remind me I am good at this! 👏
