Companies announced mass lay-offs and a manager who's team I was hoping to join via promotion was laid off- best next step?

Hi team,

Our SKO is next week and i've been planning coffee chats with specific people to talk about the opportunity to transition from Senior BDR to SMB AE.

The manager for the team and I had a good conversation and we I was waiting for SKO to further these discussions and see if we can line something up circa March.

I found out they got laid off last night due to a RIF company wide.

Now going to SKO without a game plan and everything is a little crazy within the org due to the layoffs.

I'm considering just speaking to the other manager who will now be covering their territory, but i'm mindful that everyones a bit shell shocked right now so shaking hands to go for promotion might be a bit inappropriate?

Any other advice that could be relevant in this situation?

No, it's not too early. You need to make those connections and indicate your interest in the other positions. You'll have to be aware of the situation (as you are) and not be pushy, but having those discussions and networking internally will be important.

Itโ€™s never early. Doesnโ€™t matter who got laid off but they will need things keep going. Show your interest now so you are in their consideration stage whether the opp rolls out.

I'm curious, what's your actual gameplan? Talking points, metrics, etc?

That's super tough. Are you certain of the other manager's job security? lol

I was hired at a really good start up about 4 months ago for a SDR role that I was told I wouldnโ€™t be in for very long. Theyโ€™re gonna go public in the next year, but Zoom Info reached out to me about an Account exec position. Now Iโ€™m wondering if I should take the guaranteed route to AE or let my shares vest and get to AE at the place that took me. Usually I wouldnโ€™t consider jumping so quickly, but AE is AE.

Guys! I need help! Here I am laid off again! This time I havenโ€™t secured anything and the market isnโ€™t the same as last year when I was laid off. Im from the UK.. do you know any good tech companies that are hiring in the UK who will notpotentially have to lay people off in the next 12 months?
