Consulting experience on resume

Hey Savages,

I am a member of networks like GLG and Guidepoint. They connect you with their clients to help answer questions around your industry, companies, buying and selling processes, etc.

They are mainly 1-on-1 sessions 30-60 minutes long. Usually you never meet with the same client more than once or twice, at least on my experience.

I do not have this on my resume but wondering if I should add it.

Do you guys think it would be helpful/relevant?

If I saw that on your resume it would tell me that you openly share company details with investors and analysts. Not that that is good or bad - it just is. But to some it might be bad. And if someone asked you if you work for them, you’d have to say no or waste precious interview time explaining what GLG is.

I too belong to both of those, and Third Bridge, and a couple others. I wouldn’t tell any HM about them.

I was thinking why not include it until I read this.
Keep it off.

Maybe as an extra if you have a gap you are trying to fill 🤷‍♀️

I'm a member of one of these types of orgs. Don't get any consistent consultation sessions though (1-2 every couple months, if that). I put it on my resume but it's never been seen as anything notable in my experience. I don't think it hurts though.

I have another question for you all here: Can I share consulting gig experience not with GLG or so but with startups where i helped them setup their sales engine? As a 1 month contractor or so ?

Yes, be mindful and respectful. Be aware of your commitments. As for specific details, maybe, and only maybe, discuss that in a conversation. It’s one thing to say, “helped build lead gen program”, it’s another to say increased by $$&

As an employee, I would post numbers. As a consultant, not without permission.

Which’s also means, write out what you’d love to show publicly, then ask if they are comfortable or, see if you can frame it as a quote from them.

This sounds fair, thank you!

They are still around? I have never gotten a single gig from them. De-registered years ago.

Is it a leadership role you are going for?
I would for sure be mentioning it, but not sure how much it adds to a resume
