Could use some advice

hey everyone,

currently, I am evaluating an offer to work for another company and am weighing my options. it is an account management job that would be fully remote, i get equity, and pays me 5k more in base salary.

culture seems great, I have a good relationship with the hiring manager and who would be my boss, but the on target earnings are significantly less than my current role (like 40k less)

important to know... very few salespeople at my current company seem to hit their quota, we don't have any work from home flexibility, and there has been numerous occasions where commissions and bonuses are not paid on time and in full, even though it is clearly stated in my comp plan when and how much is tobe paid.

what do you all think? is it worth it?

Not being paid on time and in full is a major problem.

What is their excuse when you ask them why this is an issue?

That alone is a huge red flag for me. In the face of it, the new role does sound more stable. Are the commissions capped at the new role, or not?

$5K isn't much of an increase, but if it's actually being paid out that makes a huge difference.
Not being paid in full or on-time is usually an indicator of very bad things when it comes to longevity.

It seems like making the jump is the way to go here. An extra $40k in OTE does not matter if there is no way for you actually to get it. It sounds like even if you do get it, they might not pay you.

The other things to think about: will you like the new role? Is the company stable?

My final thought is I would not trade being fully remote for anything. It has saved me so much time and money.

Basically what he said, if nobodies hitting quota anyways then remote + equity ON TOP OF a base increase is a no brainer just decide what matters to you

Ya if they are regularly not paying on time that’s sketch and would make me consider alone looking somewhere else

My opinion goes to how much you value yourself. Personally I won’t work for people who lie to me. If you say “here’s your comp plan and how we pay” you get maybe 2 times to get pay wrong then I’m jumping ship. I would, and have, worked for less ote when lied to by an employer.

Higher OTE doesn’t mean anything if no one is hitting quota and the company doesn’t pay out correctly.

I say dip and make the best of the new opportunity.

No Pay, No Bueno: take the remote job, I know the 401k is a little less then current job. Take $2500 from the 5k increase put it into your 401k of the new job, you will still be $2500 in the black with your new base. Or take the $5000 put the entire amount into you 401k if I remember correctly 401k doesn't get tax unless you take it out before you retire or 65. Let free taxable money work for you. I'm not a tax broker or a tax professional, this is just my opinion. All the best 👍

5k more and less ote seems to be a bad move. Unless you want to move
