Deal signed but implementation delays customer payments?

Hey team, curious to hear your thoughts on this one.

So I sell computer hardware, which installs onsite at the customers building.

Problem I'm facing right now is there's a heavy technical backlog in terms of integrating and installing our devices onto customer sites, and we don't start billing until installation and device is live.

An example deal is one I got approved and signed back in November, device still isn't live teams working on the integration.

It means that my commission isn't getting paid for maybe 1 qtr or more as customer isn't billed yet.

As integration and installation is technical, that's outta my hands

Anyone else face this issue before?

Resource constraints - I've definitely experienced.

You have no control over this, unfortunately. You need to wait it out or move one.

It's a big reason why I left one job I really liked. It wasn't hardware, but we needed to do the dev work to get paid out on the professional services.

I feel ya. Sucks not having any kind of control.

Not much you can do here, unless you learn to install and help with the backlog lol

They should be paying if they signed. Implementation is no reason to delay paying.

Thatโ€™s unfortunate, nothing in your control except trying to expedite it. Is customer happy about this delay?

Delays mostly from their side. They have some server side infrastructure we need permissions to integrate through. Plus they have changed their requirements halfnway through implementation. Unfortunately our product is bespoke so every installation looks different

ya, I worked for a company like that before too. Sucks but from the customer side it makes sense, I wouldn't want to be paying for something until it's implemented

This is pretty standard, and good policy by your employer. I sure as hell wouldn't want to be paying for something I can't use yet.

The fact that part of the delay is on the customer side is an issue, but not sure how you overcome that outside of perhaps they pay half invoice on signing and the rest once live.
That said, the real remedy is to keep selling so that one deal not paying doesn't hurt as much, if you like where you work and want to stay.

Very frustrating. All you can do is over communicate to everyone. Make sure the customer is aware of status and make sure your business is aware of customer frustration
