Delusional Recruiters on LinkedIn

I know a topic in this same vain this has been posted before(because I know how to use the search bar) but I had to share this.

I've been increasingly frustrated by recruiters on LinkedIn because despite my two years of experience + top performance record, I am constantly reached out to by them for BDR/SDR etc roles. I kindly respond and tell them that I'm not interested and that what their offering is essentially a step back for my career. However, should they have a more appropriate role in the future they are free to send them to me.

Then I got this gem below. In what fucking world is this not entry level pay? Might I add that the job description also specifically outlines EXACTLY what a BDR does.

Sometimes I feel bad for recruiters because it's essentially a sales job but then I get shit like this and remember that HR is an absolute hellscape that does nothing but make everything infuriating and hinder career progression.

So fellow savages, what are some of the best delusional recruiter stories that you have to offer? I'd love to hear them.

I honestly love when I get the "50k is the same base for all of our reps, regardless of 1 or 20 years of experience". I get that, I do, but I told you I don't work for that base anymore and I don't want to take the phone screen.

Listen to your prospect, the candidate, and cut them loose when you know they're simply never going to be a fit no matter how cool your company is.

As a recruiter, I can truthfully say that 50% of recruiters don't know what the fuck they're talking about. They're given an open role and run with whatever the description says and what their manager says it is regardless of what it actually entails. I used to do IT recruiting for front/back end developers, software engineers, etc. and I had no idea what any of these jobs entailed when I got the role, so I did my homework so I could actually know what I was pitching to people. Most recruiters don't do that and/or learn on the fly.ย

I totally get that's its unreasonable for recruiters to know every bit of job req jargon but you would think with LinkedIn making it so easy to see how many years of experience you have, they would save their time instead of taking the extra time to copy and paste their template into LinkedIn.

Spray and pray is a widely used tactic that is a surefire way to piss people off. Pull up a list of people with the job title they're looking for and select all the resumes/profiles without even looking at them/catering the message. I admit that I have most definitely accidentally reached out to people I didn't mean to and annoyed a fair amount of people, but it's not a beneficial or smart way to recruit. It's lazy and inefficient.

I ignore most recruiters, but the other day this fucking Chad of a recruiter dropped his client's (company) info in the first message he sent, with very detailed info. I clicked that shit and had to reach out to HIM. I hate the vague, no info BS.

Interesting. Lots of recruiters won't/aren't allowed to do that as you as the candidate could potentially go over their head straight to the client or reach out to recruiters you may have worked with in the past and see if they're also working the same position. It's definitely a way to maximize responses though.

I have a standard response I use for all recruiters. Literally copy and paste.

"Thanks for reaching out and I am always open to exploring my next opportunity, but to be clear I am happy with my current role.

In an effort of transparency, I am currently earning a base of X, an OTE of X (historically achieved and can verify with W2s). For me to take on a risk of a new company, my minimum would be a base of X, with an OTE of X. It would help if you or the hiring manager can at some point provide evidence that your OTE is historically achievable.

Of course, if there are reasons beyond pay to consider this role, I'd love to hear them as well.

Is it worth continuing the conversation?"

I should say that despite this very clear response. I once got through 2 rounds of interviews (1 phone with HR and zoom with the hiring manager) before I met with the VP and he said the role was like 30k less on base and 60k less on OTE.

Probably best that was a remote interview or they may have needed security.

I love the fresh out of college recruiter asking me if I'm interested in interviewing for an SDR/cold calling position making 1/3 of my current income.ย

Pro tip: remove your SDR/BDR experience and you will stop getting those idiots reaching out to you.ย

I've not gotten a single recruiter bothering me for those positions since I took it off.ย

I had one that was kinda like what you are showing, except they tried to tell me that 3yr sales reps only make 25,000 a year with a capped commission at 30,00 per year..... this was in the life insurance world. I about spit all over my computer on the zoom call. I laughed and told them they didnt know their ass hole from a hole in the ground and hung up. Not 5 minuets later they emailed me another zoom link and said that they think the internet lost their connection and wanted to finish the zoom. I ignored it and went on with my day.ย ย

Good god, if I wasn't experienced in LinkedIn recruiters, I genuinely wouldn't believe that level of lowballing. Excellent response tho and I'm sure even after that interaction, months later they still didn't understand why they couldn't fill their job reqs

bruh 55k base take home 70k total.... that's entry level....I will say though...ย  I look for senior level BDRs and try to have a similar talk track. But that's starting at take home 100k in year 1.ย

Really? I've always thought they get comped on reqs filled, I suppose it probably depends whether you are a staffing firm or in-house I would imagine. In this case he's in-house.

Depends on the company I think! When I did a short stint in recruiting, I was paid off of interviews set up. And got bonuses based off positions hired.

I just have a template I use now. "Thanks for your message, very happy at X but good luck with your search." No point being rude or snarky.ย

That said, I did have one direct competitor send me an SDR one though (current top performing AE, very active and visible on LinkedIn). In that case I was very specific about what I make consistently, what my current equity position is, and what it would take to even remotely consider another role.ย
