Do you guys apply to roles that have had over a 100 applicants?

Just wondering if it is even worth it if that many people have applied to said role. In that case, would you just focus on calling the hiring manager?

If its a remote job, something to consider is that a lot of the applicants will be people ineligible due to their location/visa status. In general, I wont take an hour putting together a custom cover letter for something with that many applicants, but Ill quick apply and hope the ATS selects me for an interview.

time is more important than total applicants its not uncommon for roles to get thousands of applicants doesn't mean any of them are more qualified than you.
if a role has been open for a month or more theyre already in the interview process and its a waste of time but if its a fresh opening then theres no reason you cant win

One that’s been available for a while could also mean they haven’t found a good applicant yet. If it’s open, apply. What do you have to lose?

Unless they use Workday. Then you've got a whole afternoon to lose.

Its crazy to me how Workday and Oracle (Through Taleo) own some of the biggest talent management platforms yet have the absolute worst applicant experience.

It's TERRIBLE. Unless it's a top target I nope tf out of there when I see Workday

Of course - who knows how qualified those people are, and whether they even follow through on completing the application.

@BigShrimpin is right - time is a more important metric. If it's been open for too long and not refreshed or reposted, it's likely been forgotten or too far into the process with other candidates.

If i’m interested in the role, I personally wouldn’t feel discourage. Over 1000 applicants might be a bit of a damper on my optimism for my candidacy but over 100 seems pretty standard these days.

Yeah, if it was posted within a couple days. Especially with LinkedIn Easy Apply those have hundreds of applicants within a day, most not qualified at all

Yes/no. If early on, I always do. If it’s been open for more than a week, no. I also prefer to use an internal employee to help place me

Unless it's a company that I'm really interested in/it was reposted recently I find that it's just not worth my time/effort.
There's also something to be said about Easy Apply on LinkedIn and making it substantially easier to boost those numbers.

I apply, though obviously these days my level of optimism on any job application is basically zero.

If I want it, yea.
Imagine how many people are simply unqualified and spamming applications.
But your second point is key, always try to standout for this high demand roles.

Yeah you should apply and if you really want to get into the process, start reaching out to folks on their team.

I just had a company boomerang back after reaching out a bunch the last month.

Why not? You'll never have a shot if you don't enter once.
