Yes, part time. They manage half my profile and I manage the other half for fun. I recommend it

Yes well worth it! Make sure you find someone you trust, ours isn't a family friend, but we had enough connections to this person to trust them initially and it's been great

Good call, finding someone you trust can def be tough but I will try asking for referrals from friends

Another tip, I like working with someone who's in a similar life situation to me (age, family etc). That way I can also ask what they are doing personally and see if it aligns with their advice to me

For those who do have one, what are some key things to look for in a financial planner? I've been thinking about getting one and would appreciate any input.

Trust is huge (obviously)… with the amount of things moving in and out of our accounts, they could easily be skimming and I would never know haha.

On top of that, someone that explains things to us in a way that doesn’t make us feel stupid… they’re sales guys/gals, so have them pitch to you!

Only work with fiduciary planners! Those who aren't are just glorified salespeople. If they try to sell you life insurance as an investment vehicle run!

I have 2 family friends that handle asset management but I’d rather invest in the stock market on my own.

We just got all of this set up around a year ago and it has been the smartest thing we’ve done financially. My wife and I have always been good with money, but now it’s like everything has been supercharged.

That's great to hear that it makes such a big difference. Do you think the same would be true in your early 20s?

It would have been exponentially better if we had set it up in our 20s… I would guess that our net worth would easily be 250-500k more than it is now… which doesn’t sound like a ton, but when you look at growth over the next 20-30 years, it would be huge to be that much further ahead

Yes. Not getting advice has cost me a lot of money from bad mistakes. Happy to spend a bit of money to prevent making more mistakes in the future

That's a good way to look at it - invest in yourself

i think there is real value to an actual planner. i do not think people selling whole life series, with a series 6/7 license fall into that category (usually)

I used to be a financial advisor, so I definitely see the value. That said, I went with a roboadvisor (Betterment) and they've been really badass. Basically dumped my old 401k's and my IRA contributions for the year go there. What I'm missing though are the things like don't spend money on X bc it could be better spent on Y.

Am I doing something wrong? Every time i meet with a financial advisor, they just try to sell me on life insurance (Which i already have) quite frustrating.

Find a family member who you know loves their money more than anything else (including their kids)...   ask them who they use...   Hire them immediately!

That was my strategy and so far it's worked out!  🤣
