Documenting your performance/numbers/portfolio?

Curious what you are all using to track your numbers/commissions/KPIs/performance. Seems like most of us just use a spreadsheet (that's what I have now, Google Sheet) but I'm curious how much you're doing with it, how much you're tracking, etc.

  • Commissions/comp calculations?
  • Closed deals/pipeline? (considering using Bravado's portfolio tool for this, seems cool)
  • KPIs, conversion rates, etc?

I generally trust my company, and have decent visibility in our CRM, but seems like it's just a good practice to keep my own numbers too.

If you're tracking your own numbers. what are you tracking and how?

My question - to what end? Personal satisfaction? To show a prospective new employer? Internal promotion? What’s your goal here?

It’s been my experience that very little formal documentation is needed for external purposes. Rarely have I been asked to prove my quota attainment when applying to a job.

It would be useful for internal promotion just to make things easy for mngrs to see what you’ve done.

Yep, you cut me off again with this one. If you’re driven by constantly comparing your performance against yourself, keep a spreadsheet. Otherwise, as far as anyone knows, you’re 132% of quota. You’ll never be asked to prove it.

Exactly my point. If I got p-club every year for 10 years, 10 years ago, who’d know?!

I did have a recruiter once ask me if I had documentation about my quota achievement. When I replied I didn't have any official notarized certification (I didn't use those exact words) she got very agitated with me and advised me that I should always keep records of my achievements for verification. She now has an "open to work" banner on her LinkedIn profile, so I don't know how much weight I should put into her advice.

I hate most of this story. I love some of it too

@Space_Ghost20 funny.... I list my accomplishments in my resume and usually that's good enough.

Same. Though I'm sure we would all be shocked at the thought, I got the impression that she never even read my resume prior to our conversation.

Maybe a little bit of personal satisfaction, yea. I have some things I'd like to track a little closer (i.e. trends in certain conversion ratios over time, inbound leads and conversion over time) but feels like a bigger undertaking on my own. Maybe something I could see if revops could build for me and just have it in the CRM?

I like having it for external purposes but I agree not super necessary.

Internal for promotion is interesting.

Closed won deals and it’s pretty easy to export it all from SFDC or use the win wire here.

Google Sheets or even Docs.

As @Pachacuti is saying, you won't need to back up much externally. I find it really useful to track big wins and their value for storytelling purposes in future job interviews. Attainment is also super useful.

But pipeline? Nah

I’ve mainly used a google sheet in the past.

Spreadsheet. But our deals are straight forward annual SaaS sales so not difficult to know exactly where you are at.

Guess I just trust the company. Everything’s in salesforce and we get a sales sheet each month

What do the sales sheets look like? Just like a one pager PDF?

For us it’s an excel sheet. Both via email and an internal software portal

We have 3 different systems - one for leads, one for project management, and one for contracts. We also built 8 different BI dashboards. I know everything that is happening, where the process is, and when things are getting delivered to the client. I’m shocked that I only allocate 20% of my time to this, but that is what is expected from me.

Spreadsheet. Sometimes notes if anything notable happened.

Actually I leverage Bravado now, previously I'd track in a spreadsheet so if I ever moved I can reference key accounts to prospective employers.
Portfolio is a lifesaver.
